The Calm before the Storm

You stood quiet as you leaned yourself against the wall as always. Your arms stood crossed against your chest as your eyes stared at the ground full of dirt. Bertholdt was the same as he also stood silent besides you, not daring to speak.

The only sound that can be heard was Reiner's grunts and screams of frustrations as he broke anything he can get his hands on. Not having many options left, his last resort ended up being a tree. His fists connected with its bark as he began to repeatedly punch it.

What started out as aggressive and full heated punches, became slow unrhythmic beats as his breathing fell staggered. His swallowing was loud as he fought with his lungs, trying to regain some air back in them.

Hearing that his little tantrum was finally over your bored eyes rose back up. You caught sight of his hands as they sat on the tree's bark, trying to keep himself standing up right. His knuckles' skin was raw and split. There was a trickle of blood but it wasn't graphic enough to cause you to be full of concern.

Reiner being Reiner, wasn't one of the friendliest people towards you especially when he was mad so you relied on Bertholdt to finally start up the conversation. You tilted your head towards him as you caught eye contact with him. Understanding the look in your eyes he turned his attention towards the Blonde who had slowly regained his breath.

"Reiner-"

But the Blonde was quick to cut him off as he rose a hand up to him.

"I don't want to hear it" he said

Bertholdt didn't take it too offensively as he too understood the pain and frustration he was feeling. He knew Reiner was heavily home sick and with the plan not following through, it only made Reiner more anxious to go home, fearing that he might not ever make it back. After it, it has been a few years since they last seen their home and family.

"Reiner, you need to calm down. We're just gonna have to come up with something else "

Reiner's chest was rising slowly as he fought hard to calm the rage still filled within him. He closed his eyes as he leaned his head onto the tree's bark. His voice came out low but the sound of anger still swept his words.

"I just want to go home Bert. All these years, adding up I fear we're never going to make it back"

"I know, but hey!"

You felt Bertholdt's arm swing around your shoulder as he pulled you in some kind of hug hold. You side eyed him as he only looked forward towards Reiner with a smile, hoping to lift his mood up.

"We still have the plan with Y/n and Eren"

The reflection of annoyance in your eyes were quick to die as a new set of dreadful eyes set in place. You looked away from him as you looked somewhere else, trying hard not to show the look of resentment. You knew if they were to catch the feeling, they'd be quick to eat you up, especially Reiner with his current drama queen mood.

Staring off at a pine-cone out in the distance, your mind's voice was snapping remarks at the two individuals.

Tch, If you want to go home so bad do something about it, I did.

Never taking action, always expecting everyone to do everything for them.

Stupid, that's what they are.

Hearing your name being called, you averted your attention to Reiner.

"Y/n, has Eren made an advances so far?"

The small light of hope in his eyes were small yet dim as he waited for your response. Staring at such a tiny light, rose a ghost smile on top of your lips as the craving to crush it rose into your mind.
