Oh, it's you that I lie with
As the atom bomb locks in
Yes it's you I welcome death with
As the world, as the world caves in

Humid air sat in my lungs as heavy breaths tried to puff it out sweat drenching my skin as the ground comforted my fall. I felt it leave my chest and swirl into nothing to disperse around me fingers scratching into the dirt trying to figure out what gravity was.

"Almost."

Light flooded into my eyes as I stared up at him. Dark hair cascading over his face blocking sunlight from towering over me. "I let you win." My body relaxed remaining on the ground. He wanted to release some form of laughter, I could tell by the slight change in his inhale, but he wouldn't...not yet.

"Sure."

"I think I'm done for the day." I told him my head rolling away from him. The ache in my muscles ran deep into the tissue bruises forming like sweet kisses along my body from him. "If that's alright." I added feeling my eyes close letting summer heat wrap me in it warmth. Sun hit me, I could sense if even behind closed lids from him moving. I figured he went away, back to the house, back to the basement.

Instead I felt movement near me the sound of his body gently laying itself on the grass not far from me, but not close either. I turned my head letting my eyes open to take him in. He was laying there two hands behind his head focusing his gaze above him at the sky sunlight reflecting off silver metal.

I waited and breathed taking in everything my eyes could as he laid there. And then his chest expanded, "You're getting good kid." Ever so slightly, his eyes flickered towards me meeting my quizzical stare only making me quickly turn my head away.

I threw my arm over my face trying to not look back in his direction feeling the small smile spread on my face. I tried to stifle it by biting my lip, but it only grew.

And he stayed there. He stayed there lying in the grass with me never too far, but never too close. He was there.

"How many of them are coming?" His eyes bore into me.

"A lot." I stayed fixated on the ground in front of me. "A lot of them."

He sighed, "All for a stone." I chewed on my bottom lip unable to even meet his eyes the fear bubbling under the surface. His touch was on the skin of my jaw tugging my face towards him. "You're worried."

The dread of it all sat deep in my chest making my knee bounce at the sheer thought of what was to come. "He wants to destroy half the universe." I whispered like Thanos might be standing on the other side of the door. "He's going to stop at nothing until he does."

"Then we stop him." He reassured me.

My throat tightened, "I don't want to lose you."

He wagered me taking in every single feature etched upon my face. Then he brought his other hand up cupping my face, "You won't." He kissed me. In a single breath of his in my mouth I felt the sheerest bit of relief, like maybe it would be okay, but the minute he parted the reality crept back in.

"Do you remember that night?" His face stayed so close to mine. He searched my eyes for an inclination into what I was talking about. "That night." I repeated feeling his body slightly stiffen. "We thought we were going to get out. We thought we were in the clear, but he knew everything. And then everything fell apart."

He pulled back more. "What are you getting at?"

I shook my head, "This feels the same, and I..." I frowned at him, "I feel like everything is going to fall apart again."
