I flung the front door open. "Steve!" I shouted running down the hallways. It was early morning when I landed and by the time I got to the compound the afternoon sun was burning high. "Nat!" No one had answered any of my calls on my way over here, and there was nothing on any newspapers or channels that let me know what had happened.
Everything had just talked about the death toll and destruction. The city was in ruins.
I ran my hand through my hair taking a left down the long corridor. Nobody was answering, why was nobody answering me. I had cried once more on the drive to the airport, but now my throat was starting to tighten. I blinked two drops siding down my face. They couldn't be dead, they were super soldiers, and assassins, and gods. I threw open the door to the large training room.
"And then you want-!"
Five heads turned to me as I stood panting in the doorway. "Kitty." Steve stared at me shocked. I ran to him jumping up to wrap my arms around his neck as he roughly caught me. "What's wrong?" His hand sat on my lower back.
"I thought you were dead." I mumbled into his neck
"What made you think that?" I peeked up at Nat's voice walking towards us with a smirk on her face and arms crossed.
Steve set me gently back on the ground. "I got your message." I looked at Steve, "And the news said Sokovia had been destroyed." I looked at Nat, "No one was answering me."
"Our phones were destroyed in the fight." he told me, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to worry you so much."
I whacked him. "I thought you all had died!"
Steve rubbed his arm, "It's a long story." I wrapped my arms around him again just relieved they weren't.
"Before that," Nat spoke up. "Kat meet the new guys." They moved and I saw the other faces standing in the room. "You know Sam already." She motioned to the other two; a girl and what looked like a red robot wearing a cape. "Wanda and Vision."
"Hello, I'm..." Who was I? I had always introduced myself as Katarina before. Clint and Nat started calling me Kat to shorten it, Tony had jumped on that with the joke of Kit-Kat, which caused Thor to question if that was the same as a 'kittycat', causing Steve to start calling me Kitty. It started as one big joke, but here we were now. So, who was I? "Katarina."
Nat eyed me. "I'll take it from here Steve. You two can catch up." She wrapped her arm around me and gave me a light shove.
"Thanks for not being dead." I smiled at her sarcastically, and then I followed Steve out. "So what happened? I got your other messages and I just figured it was a normal mission and then you ca-!"
He grabbed me swiftly swinging my legs around him and pushing my back against the wall. His mouth was on mine kissing me harshly, harsher than Steve ever really kissed me. His hands were coming up along side my face running backwards into my hair line. After everything, after my memories undoing themselves and my past becoming the past instead of a confused future; I kissed him back. My mouth opened letting him in feeling his grip tighten around me his smile forming under it all. Strong hands running down the side of my body, and gosh did I want to give into it. "I thought I'd never see you again." He mumbled into my mouth.
"Is that why you made me think you were dead?" I chuckled as he pressed his forehead into mine.
He shook his head. "I actually thought we were going to die." He kissed me again, "But I guess if it made you come." Another kiss, "I'd do it again."
"Rude," I whispered staring into his face. A face I realized I wasn't prepared to never see again. His grip loosened around me my legs sliding down to the floor. "What happened?"
