chapter 20

Kimberly

   I got up very late. It was past ten. I stood up and went to Kyle's room immediately. I didn't care about my appearance.
Kyle wasn't in his room!

  I freaked out and ran to Gerta's room. She wasn't there so I screamed her name as I ran downstairs.

    She was waiting at the door." Kimberly dear, you called." She said.

   " Gerta where is Kyle. I couldn't find him in his room." I asked.

   She let out a laugh" Oh darling, Kyle is with us. When he woke up, Samuel asked me to take him that he didn't want to disturb you." She explained.

   " Oh Kim, you said he's with us? Who's us? Who's Kyle with?" I asked. " Wait is he with hazel? I asked.

    " Oh no darling, he's with Matilda. They're right outside by the pool."

   My legs reacted before the rest of my body could and I ran outside.

   Kyle was sitting on Matilda's laps. She held on to him while he struggled to get closer to the water.

    I immediately went to grab him from her. I checked him thoroughly for any injuries while I glared at Matilda.

   " Kimberly dear, don't worry, Kyle is always safe with me. I don't know why you're being so hostile this morning."

   " Oh I'm sorry, I just don't trust someone like you." I said to her and went back inside with my baby.

   " I fed Kyle when he woke up but he might need to eat very soon and I've not bathed him." Gerta explained.

  " Thanks a lot Gerta, I'll handle it now. Can I ask for a favor?" I asked.

  " Sure darling." She replied.

   " Please I don't want Kyle to be alone with Matilda. Can you do that for me Gerta?"

    " Okay Kim, as you wish." She complied with a sour expression.

   As I was about to leave, she said, " You know, Matilda is not such a bad person. She just needs to be understood and threaded lightly with. She's been like that since she was a kid. She takes a lot of time to adjust"  Gerta explained.

   " Well I'll take that into consideration Gerta. Thanks."

    " No problem Kim." She said as she went back outside while I went straight to Kyle's room and bathed him.

My day went by quickly with me being caged in my room in order to avoid any encounters with Matilda. By late afternoon, I heard a gentle knock on my door and I stood up to open it.

  Matilda stood at the door dressed in a navy blue coloured bum shorts and a striped shirt.

    " Hi I want to talk  to you Kimberly, can I come in ?" Matilda asked.

    I looked at her for a while as I watched as she shifted her weight to the other leg.

   " Come in but be quiet. Kyle is sleeping."

   " Oh okay." She replied as she entered the room.

   " It's been a while since I entered my brother's room. It's changed so much." She said as she took a seat on the couch.

   " I wanted to apologize for how I've been treating you Kim, I know it's going to be hard to do so but I hope you'll give me a chance to prove that I can be a good person. "

    I was surprised. " Why the sudden change of heart? " I asked.

   " Well Gerta adores you and she told me that you're not a gold digger as I thought. That you're very nice and wants what's best for Samuel." She replied and it sounded like a perfectly rehearsed answer

   I didn't see any reason not to forgive her

  " Well I guess I don't have any reason to hold grudges against you. "

   She smiled. " Thanks Kim, you're not going to regret this."
She said in a sing song voice as she walked out of the room.

   I hope I don't regret it.

   I really hope I don't.

Samuel came back few minutes past eight. I was caged up in Kyle's room preparing him for bed.

    I heard a knock on the door.
" Come in." I shouted and Samuel entered the room.

   " Hey, how was work?" I asked him.

   " Good." He said as he walked over and gave me a long kiss.

   " How's my baby boy doing?" He asked.

   " Say I'm fine daddy." I said as I handed Kyle to him.

  " Have you eaten?" I asked him.

   " Yeah, I had dinner with a client." He replied.

   " Here, I'll be back in a few I need to freshen up." He said as he gave  Kyle back to me.

   I finished dressing Kyle and I placed his head on my chest as I lured him to sleep.

     A few minutes later, he fell asleep and I placed him carefully on his crib situated on the wall of the left side of the room. I switched on the starry night LED  light, placed a kiss on his forehead and left the room.

   When I entered our room, Samuel was tapping at his screen as usual.

   " Hey." I said.

    " Hey." He replied as he dropped his tablet.

  " How was your day ?" I asked him.

  " It was productive." He said as he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. " How was yours?" He asked.

" Well it was good. You know, something strange happened today. Matilda came to apologize to me."

  "Well that's um- that's unbelievable." He said.

  " You didn't have a hand in it did you?" I asked him.

  " Absolutely not. I promise. I just told her that she doesn't have a choice but to accept you. That's just facts." He explained.

  " Oh okay. Thank you Samuel." I said to him.

   " For what Kim? " He asked.

     " For everything." I replied and he placed a kiss on my forehead and smiled at me and that was a suitable answer for me.

It's going to get a lot more interesting in the next chapter.

Has Matilda really changed or is it some kind of a plot???? We'll find out in the next chapter 😜😜😜😜😜
