"Thank you, Ms. (L/n) for coming." Cornelius Fudge said as I walked into the courtroom, it was the smallest one at the ministry and only had 10 chair seats.
"Of course Minister, I never got a chance to apologize for my little outburst in December." I took the defendant's seat in the small room, which was mainly used for small trials like arguments between married witches and wizards.
"Yes well, we'll get to that, do you know why you were summoned today?" He asked from his seat far above mine. I nodded. "Then there's no point beating around the bush, did you have relations with Sirius Black while at Hogwarts?"
"You'll have to be more specific," I began, "You see when I was still a student at Hogwarts, Sirius and I were dating."
"Apologies, I'll be very specific, did you help Sirius Black into Hogwarts during the 1993-1994 school year?" He asked looking over the notes on his desk, the other nine wizards and witches in the room looked like they'd rather be somewhere else.
"No, I didn't know that Sirius had even escaped Azkaban until I heard it on the muggle news." I explained which was pretty much true.
"In December you claimed that Sirius Black was your fiancé, is that true?" At this a few of the witches leaned in, suddenly interested, Mafalda was one of them, and Nymphadora Tonks, Sirius's little cousin was also there, she had bubble gum pink hair and was there presumably to refer to about Sirius. I had met her when Sirius and I had begun dating, but she was just a little kid at that point.
"Yes, that is true, we were engaged in the winter of 1980." Mafalda looked shocked, as did the rest of the witnesses who were now suddenly interested in the trial.
"Did you intend on staying engaged after he was convicted?" Fudge asked, still shuffling papers.
"At first, yes. I thought that my significant other could do no wrong, but as the years went on, I lost hope and threw away the ring." I lied, hoping to convince the minister.
"What do you remember about the night Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ronald Weasley were found in the shrieking shack with Sirius Black?" He asked leaning forward, it seemed the other witnesses did the same.
"I don't remember much, aside from feeling so happy and carefree, it was like all my anxieties were taken away." I explained, hopefully fooling the minister into thinking that I was under the Imperius curse. If it had worked for Lucius Malfoy it would work for me.
"Sounds like she was under the Imperius Curse." Tonks had spoken up, and the court agreed with her.
"It does appear that way Nymphadora, but we do have an alibi from Severus Snape stating that 'Ms. (L/n) was fully aware of what she was doing and even told Dumbledore that Sirius Black was innocent.' How do you explain that?" He asked, looking down at me.
"Well during my work as an Auror, I saw these curses first hand and when the user comes out of it they tend to have a moment or few where they still believe that they are under the will of their abuser, surely Severus knew that as he has a particular interest in the defense against the dark arts." I explained and got murmurs of approval from the court.
"Yes, I suppose that could happen." The minister mused before reading off of his notes. "Do you know where Sirius Black is now?"
"Last I saw of him was when he dumped me on the side of the street outside of muggle London." I lied, tearing up slightly. "I was in such a daze that I couldn't remember where I was."
"Obviously, she's in pain after being put under so much, can we just finish this minister?" A very impatient wizard said from the far end of the court. It was my old friend, Val, at least I think they still go by that, it seems like they transitioned since the last time I saw them.
