New's POV

I was walking out of one of my lectures a few days later when I noticed him across the pathway.

I inhaled deeply, desperately searching for a way out, but it was too late. With an awkward smile curling my lips, Earth spotted me and made his way over. At the very least, he wasn't with him. The happy couple, Earth and Mix. He was not scared to bring his omega to games and parties and introduce him to his friends...

Earth came to a halt a few feet away, his hands lifted slightly as if to indicate he didn't mean any harm. If only all red flags in our relationship were communicated so obviously.

He looked... alright. His hair was soft and loosely combed, his eyes glinted and expressive as they always were, and he wore a college sweatshirt and jeans. Okay, he looked handsome.

Not like me - I may be glowing in Tay's opinion, but I also have dark eye bags and flattened hair from not bothering to brush it in the morning. I was also fairly certain there was a stain on my sweater, which I was rather concerned about.

"Hey, New," Earth said hesitantly, his face tense as if he was scared I'd blow up in his face. I swallowed, trying to keep the pain at bay.

"Hey, Earth," I eventually said, maintaining a pleasant and indifferent tone. I nervously looked down at my hidden bump, then exhaled a sigh of relief as I discovered the curve was barely visible beneath my baggy top and cardigan.

I had no idea what Earth wanted. I was certain he would never want to speak to me again, which is why I was surprised by his response.

"I was wondering if we could talk," he said hesitantly, fiddling with the material of his jumper and clumsily hunching in his shoulders. "I understand if you don't want to, but I think it would be a good idea."

I blinked, taken aback. "Sure," I said almost immediately, my yearning overcoming any attempts to reason through my options and make a rational decision.

I bit my lower lip and let Earth lead me away from the pathway to a nearby bench. I took a cautious seat, crossing my knees and resting my cold hands on my lap. Earth took a seat a foot away, the space between us shaking with tension and unspoken words. I couldn't tolerate a wave of sandalwood and coconut, so I switched to inhaling through my mouth.

"What is it you wanted to talk about?" I asked, attempting — and most likely failing — to maintain a neutral tone.

Earth, on the other hand, didn't appear to notice as he sighed. "Look... I've been hearing some rumors and I guess I'm a bit... concerned."

He gave me a sidelong glance before pouting his lips into a frown. Earth's gaze dropped to my stomach, and I frowned. I kept a hand on my bump almost subconsciously, as if it were an instinct to shield my pup.

"About me..."

"Being pregnant," Earth said, looking uneasy.

"It's true," I said, ducking my head.

For a brief period, the area was deafeningly silent. "It's... it's not mine, is it?"

My head jerked up, and I gaped, absolutely shocked.

"No, of course not!" I yelled, horrified. "I would have told you!"

I was expecting Earth to believe me, but he only gave me a frown. "How far along are you?"
