New's POV

On our first weekend into the second semester, I attended my first basketball game. Although I had dated a basketball player for over a year, I dragged Gun along with me because he understood more about the sport than I ever did.

It was strange to see Earth play, but I was more interested in Tay. Despite Gun's best efforts to explain the game to me, I was absolutely lost. I just sat there and watched Tay run down the court, cheering as everyone else did. Even though I didn't know how to play the game well, I knew Tay was incredibly gifted — he was fast, confident, and brilliant.

I can also see how capable he was as a captain. He was a natural leader, huddling with his teammates and talking over plays during intermission. On the court, everyone looked up to him, but he never took advantage of their admiration.

Their team was exactly that: a team.

Every player was important, and they all contributed significantly to the final score of 71–65.

After the game, Tay approached me, eager to hear my comments. When the alpha drew me into a tight hug, his delighted and proud face, damp hair dripping sweat onto his shirt, made my heart expand even more.

"You were amazing," I said.

Tay's grin widened, his eyes soft and fond as he gazed at me. I flushed at the attention and quickly glanced at my shirt.

"You got me all wet." I locked my gaze on Tay's grin then glared. "Don't."

The alpha remained silent, but he still had a smug expression on his face.

"Next time, you should wear my jersey," he said. "You've already got my spare with you."

"S–Sure," I said, my heart pounding.

Tay wanted me to wear his jersey.

"You'd look so cute in it," Tay said, completely oblivious to the fact that he was making me blush all the way down my neck. "But no pressure."

"I will," I said, attempting to sound indifferent. In actuality, I was a nervous wreck.

The point was, a lot of omegas showed up to school games wearing their partners' jerseys. It was a corny yet endearing tradition. Except there were two things that made me freak out.

First, Tay and I are not dating.

And second, I had just recently realized how much I wished we were.

Fuck.

~*~*~*~

I regularly went to the salon near campus whenever I needed a haircut, and I always checked to see if the person who always cut my hair was on duty, as this was only a part-time job for her.

"New!" Gigie excitedly said.

She dropped her mopping of the previous client's hair and slammed me with an embrace. It just took a few seconds for her to notice that something wasn't quite right. As she stumbled back, her eyes widened and her mouth gaped in surprise. Her gaze immediately fell to my tummy, then rose to lock onto my eyes. After a long pause, I gave a timid smile.

She shrieked.

"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! Newwiee, you're pregnant!" she yelled before shrieking again. "How far along are you? I can't believe this!"

I couldn't stop myself from grinning. It never gets old to break the news to people. I had to physically restrain myself from breaking the news to strangers on the street.

"Just under five months but they're a fast grower," I said fondly.

At the fifth month mark, Tay and I went for our second appointment a week and a half ago. We were hoping that this would be the checkup where we finally learned the baby's sex, but unfortunately, it was still a bit unclear.
