It was the day Meredith had to go into the hospital to get admitted

Derek had brought her in but she insisted she wanted to check on her patients first

She was shuffling her way through the hallways with Poppy's leash in her hand who was slightly dragging her

Derek and Ellis were installing in Meredith's hospital room as she would stay here for a couple of days but she insisted she wanted to check on her patients by herself so they let her. Derek knew she had a hard time seeing how many independence she already had lost

"Good morning, Stanley" Meredith entered the room of her last patient, doctor Bailey walking behind her

"Good morning Doctor Grey. Doctor Bailey" Stanley smiled

"Can we do a quick exam on you?" Meredith asked

"Of course" Tom nodded

Meredith walked up to the patient and let go of Poppy. Bailey helped Meredith to lift the gown a bit

Meredith softly pushed on Stanley's stomach and felt if it was soft or rather hard. Bailey grabbed the ultrasound machine and started the complete exam as Meredith was watching the screen

"Seems like the tumor grew" Meredith said

"So I'll need my surgery this week?" Stanley asked

"Yes but doctor Bailey will do the surgery. I won't be on your case anymore" Meredith smiled apolitical

"Why not? Doctor Grey, you've been on my case since the beginning.." Stanley started

"I have to get surgery myself" Meredith gave him a sad smile

"Oh I'm sorry-" Stanley apologized

"Okay so Dr Bailey, can you take over?" Meredith asked as she was leaning against the wall as her body was aching

"Of course Dr Grey" Bailey nodded and continued

Meredith slowly shuffled her way through the hallway and bumped into Alex

"Hey! What are you doing here? You should be in bed!" Alex frowned

"On my way now. I just had to check on a patient" Meredith told him but Poppy was trying to get Alex' attention

"I'll help you" He offered as he noticed Poppy was trying to get his attention. He wrapped his arm around her waist and felt her heavily leaning on him

Alex helped her towards her room and saw Derek frowning as he saw Meredith's exhausted form

"Here, just lay down" Alex dragger her to her bed and lifted her legs to eventually cover her with the blanket

"Have to change" Meredith mumbled

"Nap first" Alex brushed a few hairs out of her face

"Can I lay down with you?" Ellis quietly asked

"Of course" Meredith breathed, already half asleep

Meredith had been asleep for the biggest part of the day as she was completely worn out by checking her patients earlier but the nurses wanted to start her on pre op meds

"Meredith, you need to wake up" Alex woke her up

"Leave" She groaned

"Mer, they need you in a gown" Alex chuckled at her mood

"Okay" She sighed and opened her eyes. She sat up and let Poppy help her out of the bed. She slowly made her way to the big hospital bathroom and Poppy helped her taking off her pants so she could put on the gown
