"Ellis, come here honey" Derek tried but the little girl cutched onto her mother

"Wanna stay here" She whispered

I promise I'll convince aunt Amy that you can see me as quick as possible" Meredith promised her daughter

"Okay" Ellis sighed but didn't let go

"Ellie, can you help me say bye bye to Poppa as well?" Meredith asked her daughter in a try to distract her

"Yes" Ellis giggled and slipped off the bed, giving Meredith a hand to grab

"Hey Pops" Meredith walked to the couch, ignoring Derek who wanted to give her a hand "You need to be good with Ellie and Derek" She brushed her hands through Poppy's golden fur and received kisses all over her face "I love you Pops" Meredith whispered

"I think we should go. Will you be okay?" Derek checked

"I'll be okay" She nodded and watched them leave

It didn't take long before Amelia and Tom entered the room and started their speech. She was then rolled to the cold OR which made the pain a lot worse

"Let's clean your spine" Amelia smiled softly

The next time Meredith woke up she felt groggy. She slowly opened her eyes and looked around her, she saw Alex smiling at her

"Hey, you're awake" He smiled

"How 'd it go" She mumbled, her eyes already slowly closing again

"Cleaning out your spine went fine but rest, we'll talk later" Alex quickly said

Meredith knew this was an odd answer but she was too tired to say anything more

...

Alex was still sitting with Meredith as Amelia walked inside

"H-How's she?"

"She's been awake twice" Alex turned to her "Amelia, we'll have to see, okay?"

"Okay" Amelia breathed and took a seat

Hours later Meredith woke up again

"E-Ellie?" She whispered

"It's me, Alex. Ellie's with Derek and Poppy, you just got out of surgery" Alex brushed his hand over her forehead

"Hmm.. Wanna see Ellie" Meredith groaned

"Hi Mer. I have to check you out, is that okay?" Amelia spoke up

"Go ahead" Meredith muttered

"How have you been feeling?" Amelia asked "no headache or anything?"

"Just pain" Meredith spoke up

"Where?" Amelia frowned

"Left leg" Meredith replied

"Okay Meredith, I'll give you some pain leds so you can sleep a little longer" Amelia smiled "You did very good"

"Wanna see Ellie" Meredith protested

"Tomorrow" Alex held her hand

Once Meredith was asleep the two doctors exchanged a worried look

"Did you touch her spinal cord or anything?" Alex asked

"No. We cleaned her spine and the inflammation is gone. We need her on meds for a while to make sure it's all cleaned and until then she'll have to take it easy so her damaged nerves can finally get some rest"

Meanwhile at Derek's house thing's weren't going that easy. Ellis was upstairs, she was in a mood and Poppy was whining all day at the door, looking for Meredith
