Chapter 24

We're already in the third semester, the worst one, and obviously the prom was all everyone was talking about. I found it weird that Jean hadn't talked to me about it but I figured that he probably would ask me later.

Also, him and Mikasa had been weirdly close lately. I mean, I'm not  jealous or anything and it's not like anything is going to happen, they're both already dating other people, it's really not a big deal...

However it still somehow bothers me. He never stopped hanging out with me and he's a great boyfriend but why did he get closer to someone he had a crush on last year? It scares me for some reason.

Obviously, I didn't talk about it with him, I don't want to be like those girlfriends who get jealous at everything, I'm not like that. Maybe when I get the chance, I'll mention it or something.

One day, we were all eating together when suddenly Jean and Mikasa had to leave. That made me feel suspicious so I decided to look for them. I searched in a few corridors but I couldn't find them.

Out of nowhere, I started hearing voices coming from a hall I haven't checked yet. I finally saw both of them talking to each other. Jean had his back turned to me so he couldn't see me.

I immediately felt a sense of deja vu when I was able to hear their conversation.

"...Will you go to prom with me?" Jean asked.

"Yes..." Mikasa answered, hugging him right after.

I stood far from them but close enough for them to notice my presence. I was shocked. My whole body was shaking and I felt like crying. 

When they noticed I was there, both of them looked horrified, realizing that I had heard the things I shouldn't have. I quickly ran out of there while Jean chased after me. Whatever he wanted to tell me, I didn't want to listen. He was able to catch up to me and grabbed my arm.

"Let me go." I yelled.

"(Y/n), let me explain, please." He asked.

"I don't want to hear it." I kicked his leg, making him fall and let go of me.

"Wait!" He called but I was already out of his sight.

I went straight home, not giving a care about what I left at school. I figured that Jean could come to my house so I locked the door to my room to make sure he wouldn't come in.

I put my headphones on and made a playlist. I was starting to get hungry so I made sure that no one was downstairs to go get something to eat.

At the kitchen, I took some ice cream, a few cookies, a drink and some candy that I found. As I was getting back to my room, I heard keys jiggling and saw Jean opening the door. I immediately ran to my room and locked the door.

He banged on it and begged for me to open it but I just ignored him and listened to my new playlist while eating. I turned my notifications off so that no one would bother me and stayed like that for the whole night.

I woke up next morning with my eyes all red and puffy. When I fell asleep, I forgot to take my headphones off so one of them was still in my ear. I cleaned my bed and ate some leftovers of my breakdown for breakfast. 

I didn't want to go to school but I also didn't want my grades to go down like last year. The only thing I had to do was ignore Jean for the whole day. It was going to be easy.

Jean didn't go to the first class so I was glad for a while but he did go to the next one. He sat in our usual table but I was faster and sat on one at the back of the class. Sometimes I could feel him looking at me while I tried to listen to the teacher.
