Music has always played a big part in helping me visualise certain parts of The Mimic. I feel as if it helps add to the emotion of the story, so I want to share some of the songs I've listened to! (I'll keep adding to this as I go, because there's A LOT)

Get ready to cry:

Happy Now? - FINNEAS. After Endgame, citizens thanking her and praising her for saving the world, even though she'd just lost the love of her life. 'I was supposed to be happy now, they're all so happy for me'.

Mind over Matter - Young the Giant (make sure it's the one with the black and silver cover). Just a sort of wallowing in self-pity song. She's been through a lot.

Lights Are On - Tom Rosenthal. After Endgame, y/n completely numb and just sitting and staring into nothing. 'There ain't no love like our love'.

Love in the Dark - Adele. 'Home' era. Y/n turning all the lights off in the house at the end, but of course Bucky switches them back on. She's trying to distance herself to make saying goodbye easier, but it doesn't work. 'Everything changed me'.

Pluto Projector - Rex Orange County. 'Home' era. This is the goodbye song. Flashes of their life, and them just swaying in the kitchen. The Hex is closing, and when the orchestra hits, the Hex has hit Bucky. 'Stay forever, you know more than anyone'. Yeah, lots of tears.

Cold in California - Ashe. People see the Avengers as these superstars that can do no wrong etc, but y/n has had many of her darkest times on that team. She's basically warning others to not join the team. 'Don't talk about the ugly parts, the loneliness you feel'.

Lost My Mind - FINNEAS. Can't really explain it, but I relate it to y/n. 'If I don't make sense, please forgive me, I can't sleep at night'.

Strange - Celeste. Compilation of y/n and Bucky. 'From Strangers' being her and Bucky in Hydra, 'to friends' escaping Hydra. 'Friends into lovers' them falling in love. 'And strangers again' y/n at Bucky's grave.

People Watching - Conan Gray. Compilation of y/n and Bucky. 'But for now I'm only people watching' then pans to y/n sat alone on a bench. 'I had a dream about a house behind a picket fence' is a reference to the 'Home' era.

I'm Tired - Labrinth & Zendaya. Self-explanatory. Y/n has been through a lot of shit.

Words Fail - Dear Evan Hansen. I know it's a show tune, but a lot of the lyrics remind me of y/n at the end of her 'Home' era. 'And you want to believe it's true, so you... make it true'.

What a time - Julia Michaels and Niall Horan. Like most of the songs, I think of it in edit form. So, 'I think of the night in the park, it was getting dark' is them spending time together, Bucky's head in her lap. But, when 'what a lie' hits, it's Bucky dead in her lap. Yeah, mean.

Gilded Lily - Cults. Pretty self explanatory, and similar to a lot of these songs on here. 'Haven't I given enough?' Makes me think of the 'Home' era where she needs to let go, because she's already lost so much. She just wants that peace, and she has to let go again.

Glimpse of Us - Joji. I like to think of this as a parallel between y/n's relationship with Yelena, and her relationship with Bucky. Due to Yelena being aroace (please correct me if I'm wrong), their relationship is strictly platonic, but that doesn't change the emotion of the song.

Happy times that'll make you grin like a clown:

Locked out of Heaven - Bruno Mars. Y/n and Peter dancing around a hotel room with this song playing. That's it. They're having a great time, and the team could even be watching on the camera in Peter's suit if you want to make it even sweeter.

Adore You - Harry Styles. I feel like this'd be a song Peter would play on the quinjet on the way to a mission. Peter and y/n would be dancing and singing along, and Scott would probably join in. Y/n and Scott assume the role of the backing singers and guitarists, using the biggest guns they can find as their guitars.

Japanese Denim - Daniel Caesar. I feel like this is how Bucky views y/n. Very sweet slow song. 'My blue jeans will last me all my life'

Just the Two of Us - Grover Washington Jr. & Bill Withers (the seven-minute version). I feel like y/n and Bucky would dance to this on a tropical island. That's it, just sweet smiles.

Can't Take My Eyes off You - Frankie Valli. Another song for the way that Bucky views y/n. He'd definitely sing this to her in private.

Teach Me How To Love - Shawn Mendes. Y/n and Bucky dancing in a club, very up close and personal. (Maybe a little spicy??)

Photograph - Cody Fry. This song reminds me of how Bucky views y/n. I like to think of it as an evening in Wakanda, especially since there are talks of settling down.

Tia Tamera (feat. Rico Nasty) - Doja Cat. I have a feeling people would make edits of y/n and Natasha to this song.

Maneater - Nelly Furtado. Sam would 100000% sing this to y/n through his earpiece during missions. Especially undercover ones.

Punching walls:

Happier Than Ever - Billie Eilish. I imagine this song as her interaction with the man in the suit during Endgame. The first part is her frozen in the hallway, watching him interact with her younger self, and the second part is her confrontation with him.

No Time To Die - Billie Eilish. This song could be perceived in two ways. The first way is her interaction with the man in the suit when she first learnt how to use mind control (close to the start of the book if I remember correctly). The second way is her realisation after she's locked away in the Raft by Bruce and Tony. 'That I'd fallen for a lie, you were never on my side'. This can span to all of her interactions with Bruce and Tony after the Raft.

She Knows - J. Cole. 'Home' era. Wanda turning up in Westview, and y/n figuring Geraldine out after she slipped up. 'She knows, and I know she knows', it's very much an eye contact thing.

Snap Out Of It - Arctic Monkeys. 'Home' era. This is Wanda to y/n. It's pretty self-explanatory, she's trying to snap y/n out of the delusion.

GOLDWING - Billie Eilish. Not really an angry song, but it's a compilation of her time as a child in Hydra. 'Gonna claim you like a souvenir just to sell you in a year', the man in the suit feeding her lies about the outside world.
