A Toxic Relationship

January 2017...

Kylie's pov

I've been at the club for a while and Melanie still isn't here. I try calling her and it goes straight to voice mail. "I don't have the time for this" I groan out of frustration.

"Where the hell are you Melanie!? I've been here for 30 minutes waiting for you. Call me back" I yell into her voice mail which makes me feel slightly better.

Melanie and Edwin started dating a month later after their first date, so he always used to hang out with us. And of course, sometimes they just disappeared to make out or whatever they were doing. But tonight they were gone longer and Melanie didn't even answer her phone when I tried to call her.

"I guess I'll just have to go and ask Cain if he knows where they are since he's here with Daniel" I know that I shouldn't but it's the only way to find out where Melanie is.

So I spot them at the bar and I waved at Cain to come over. He was very surprised to see me because he knows that we don't talk regularly. After a few moments, he walks up to me.

"What's up?" he asks me.

"Hey, do you maybe know where Edwin and Melanie went?" I ask.

"She isn't answering her phone and I need to go home now. "I've been here for way too long"

"Oh, I'm sorry but I have no idea where they are or where they could be. And he didn't reply to my text messages when I tried to reach him"

Damnit. I thought he would know.

"Oh ok. Well, thanks anyway and sorry for bothering you"

"You never bother me" he says looking down at me.

I stand there in silence trying to figure out what to say because this is just all awkward now.

"So... I should probably go now then" I say looking down at my feet. As I'm about to walk away, he says something that makes me stop in my tracks.

"Wait!" He shouts. "Please don't go yet" I turn around waiting for him to say whatever he has to say to me before I leave.

"Can't you just stay for a few minutes so we can talk?" Cain asks and I gulp.

I take a deep breath before answering. "I'm sorry, but I can't. I have to go" I shift uncomfortably.

So I left.

But sometimes, I couldn't help but wonder if everything would have been different if I had just stayed with him that night...

7 months later...

Kylie's pov

"Hey, beautiful!" Cain says. I roll my eyes. How did he even get here?

"What do you want Cain?" I snap.

"Do you really wanna know what I want?" he asks.

"No, not really," I say.

"I want you to go out with me on a date. And now that you're single, nothing is stopping you. So what do you say?" he asks.

"I can't Cain"

"Why not?" he rolls his eyes. "I swear, you never give me a chance. Don't you find me attractive at all or something?" he asks. He cannot be serious right now.

"Stop it! You know very well it's not because of that. It's because of your horrible reputation with girls" I argue back.

"Well, if you could just give me a chance to get to know me, you'll see that I'm actually a good guy" he tries to assure me.

Why can't he just understand that it won't happen? I just want to be left alone right now.

"Look I'm sorry Cain, but I can't" I say before walking away from him.
