It was Marcus McClain's first day of school. He didn't really feel excited or nervous or bored. Just neutral. Mrs.Kelly, his old history teacher, left so today he'd be meeting his new teacher. He wasn't excited. When he entered the classroom, he took his seat next to his friends and noticed the new teacher wasn't facing them, his back did. The bell rang and everyone took their seats. "Good morning. I'm Mr.Kogane." He turned around and the class flinched. On his right cheek, a hideous scar ran up to his cheekbone that was tight with scarred fleshed and so sickly.

"I'm your teacher. Welcome to History."

School ended and Marcus came to realize he didn't really care for the scar on Mr.Kogane's cheek. Mama always says don't judge a book by it's cover. Mama is really smart. He missed her. He turned around during homeroom and dismissal and everyone seemed to be whispering about something except him. They all glanced at Mr.Kogane and murmured to others. Gossiping. Mama says gossiping is bad and like poison. But only kids do it.

The adults and parents lined up at the door to pick up their kids. Mr.Kogane got up and stood by the door, introducing himself and ignoring the stares. How long had he had that scar that made him immune to the stares? Even with the stares though, all the single parents or guardians seemed to blush at him. Mr.Kogane was very attractive, except for that scar.

Keith was oblivious to that. He thought his scar was the ugliest thing in the world that was so horribly disgusting he figured no one would care for him. He lived alone, with no one. All the parents left, kids leaving the classroom quickly. Keith turned around to see a little boy with tan skin, brown hair and brown eyes staring at him. He was used to it. "You did well in class today, Marcus. I'm glad." He didn't look like it. Marcus nodded,"Thank you, sir." Mama always taught him to be respectful.

Suddenly, they both turned to the door as a man suddenly almost slammed into the door,"Sorry, Marcus. I got off work late." He wore a business suit and Marcus' eyes gleamed as he jumped up with his backpack,"Uncle Lance!" Marcus ran into his arms and Lance stumbled back a little, laughing,"Hey buddy." They both turned to Keith.

Honestly, it was realllllly weird.

Uncle Lance was watching Mr.Kogane for a while and his face seemed to to different shades of red. Keith was the same, except his blushing was way more obvious. Keith cleared his throat,"I'm Mr.Kogane, the new history teacher." Lance stared a bit then smiled warmly.....and flirtatiously? "A pleasure. Truly. I'm Lance, Lance McClain."" His voice suddenly changed to a deep romantic one. He ran a hand through his brown hair and his bright blue eyes gleamed mischievously and very flirty. Keith cleared his throat,"Yes."

Lance thanked him and Keith found it very odd that he was being very kind. Usually people stare and stay quiet, the conversation not lasting long. Keith for the first time in his life, felt self conscious of his scar. He resisted the urge to cover it. Why was someone so stunning and kind as Lance talk to him? What was he worth talking to? He was hideous.

Marcus smiled,"Bye, Mr.Kogane." Keith was certainly taken aback. When was the last time someone said goodbye to him that sweetly and warmly. It sounded genuine. Lance took Marcus' hand. With the other one he reached out for a handshake,"I'll see you tomorrow?" Keith glanced at the hand,"Yes." Oh no. It would be rude to refuse. He reached out and Keith was thankful for his fingerless gloves. They covered that scars that matched his cheek. Lance took his hand and shook it without a flinch or hesitation. He looked down and saw the small scars on his arms peeking out of the gloves. He let go gently and smiled. Keith was surprised he didn't wipe his hand or something. They turned around and left, Marcus cheerfully waving at him. Lance turned back for one more look and smiled gently as he winked.
