Chapter 14

The Ak’s sat on the opposite futon, while the Vk’s decided to join Diego on the floor on the rug. It could clearly be seen that Diego wasn’t moving any time soon and it looked as if some of the younger generation would be joining him in the land of sleeping. Hades decided to get the staff to bring some food in the lounge because it would take something drastic to happen to get these kids to move to a dining room, he would deal with the mess afterwards. Parent instinct was taking over him as he passed a few blankets out. Knowing a discussion was about to happen. 

“Let’s start with, what happened Evie?” Persephone's gentle voice coaxed her, she continued, “You do not have to tell it now, but you did wake up shouting Harry's name”. Evie’s face twisted while she contemplated what she was going to answer. She was sitting in the middle of Jay and Mal with Uma and Gil next to Mal’s other side in a curve. It was almost like they were protecting her, she smiled. “After the attack…em with…the Crocodile. Blackness took over my vision and I woke up in a black room. There was something blocking me from moving towards the light. I could hear a range of voices, I was so confused and disoriented. When a hand appeared on my arm and he stood there. Harry stood in front of me. I can’t remember the exact words but he coaxed me to fight and so I did. Then it all happened at once, some figure appeared and Harry was being attacked, they were emitting a purple wave and Harry was clutching his head as he protected me. He shoved me back and I fell until I opened my eyes to see him hanging off something. Diego suddenly appeared in my vision with green energy around him, which I guessed was Mal’s magic as he fought to get to me. Diego held my arm when my vision blurred but I remember screaming his name before darkness took over my vision. Then I woke up to Diego leaning over me”. Evie explained with tears slipping from her eyes, Mal was quick to wipe away. Jay rubbing her back. Gil offered some encouragement.

Uma directed her eyes towards Diego. To an outsider it would look like the boy was asleep but Uma knew from Harry’s behaviour Diego had picked up, he was awake. Directing her question at him, “Diego? Why couldn’t I help?” levels of concern in her voice. Everyone’s attention turned to the red eyed De Vil, who looked up to meet Uma’s eyes. “Because it would have killed your treasure and I am not in the mood to answer”. He bluntly spoke, dropping his head in his knees. “What?” Gil yelled. Diego stood abruptly before grabbing Thomas hand as the two stalked out the room, exhaustion clearly on both their features, Gil scrambled forward grabbing Diego's arm and spinning him around quickly. Repeating “What do you mean treasure Diego?”. Diego groaned when Thomas led him back to the futon and they took their seats they had just left. Persephone reached down to tap his shoulder in comfort. 

“Dammit!” Diego cried out as he held his fist close to his chest as he knocked it against the floor when he sat down. After some quick first aid and Thomas healing it as much as it could have been, he turned towards the group. Who were sitting wanting an explanation to why Uma couldn’t help out. “Fine” he grumbled, continuing, “Uma you couldn’t help out because my powers contradict with pure powers. I don’t think you're aware but pure powers only come from pure innocent souls and my powers can kill innocent souls. I can control them around certain innocent ones but not a one who is just learning”. “What do you mean by innocent souls?” Jay questioned, tapping his leg with his fingers impatiently. Diego cursed to himself as he continued, “I mean Innocent souls like unborn babies”. “Wait, you mean Uma’s pregnant?” Jane questioned. Diego nodded too exhausted to use his own voice.

Uma sat in shock. She turned to Gil incredibly worried when he didn’t respond. She watched him suddenly feeling very self conscious, worry appeared on her features. Gil’s tough interior suddenly felt fuzzy as he stood up and he pulled Uma into his arms. He spun around in a circle with her in his arms. His smile and laughter were contagious; those around the room erupted in cheers and congratulations to the couple. Ben smiled from the futon before frowning, they still hadn’t sorted the reason why they were there. Gil was laughing with Jay as they discussed what they were going to teach the baby.
