Ethan's POV
It was a Tuesday afternoon and I decided to take my six year old daughter, Charlotte out to Barnes & Noble to buy some more books for her. Ever since she was born, she's always loved books and telling stories. Her mother used to always read her stories before she went to bed every night. But then one day, Quinn and I had got into a fight because Charlotte came up to me that morning crying with bruises on her legs and I asked her where they came from and she said, "Mommy hit me with a belt." I had put her in her room and confronted Quinn about what happened. She told me that Charlotte was being too loud while she was trying to make dinner and she just hit her. I immediately told her off and she left the next morning. She hasn't been back since and Charlotte was so distraught because she thought it was her fault that she didn't have a mom anymore. But I explained to her that it wasn't her fault and that all she needed in her life was me as her dad. "Daddy, can I get this book?," Lottie asked with so much excitement as she held up The Very Hungry Caterpillar. "Of course bub." She squealed and put it in the basket. I chuckled at her eagerness and kept moving down the aisles and aisles of books. "Ok bub, what book do you wanna get next?" When I didn't get a immediate response, I looked down and my eyes went wide as I didn't see Charlotte next to me anymore. "Lottie? Lottie, where did you go? Are you hiding from me?" I looked around in the aisles around me and I still didn't see her. My heart started beating so fast at the thought of losing her.Y/N's POV
I had come to Barnes & Noble to get some new books because I've gotten back into reading ever since I left college. "Oooh, this book looks really good," I said to myself as I picked up The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. As I kept looking through the shelf, I suddenly felt something tug onto my pants. I looked down and saw a little girl with two curly puffs in her hair. She was holding a stuffed dog toy and had tears running down her face.I bent down to her level and started talking to her. "Hi sweetheart, what's wrong? Did you lose your mommy?" She nodded her head no and said, "No, I-I-I lost my daddy." She started crying again. "Hey hey, don't cry. I can help you find your daddy. What does he look like?" "He has black haiwr, a beard, and knee tattoos." I nodded and went to grab her hand. She instead made grabby hands at me and I picked her up. As I picked her up, I realized that I didn't know the little girl's name. She was clutching her stuffed dog close to her and started crying again. "Hey, don't worry. We're gonna find your daddy. So what's your name love?" "Charlotte," she whispered. "That's such a pretty name for a cute little girl." She giggled and said, "Tank you. My daddy picked my name." I smiled at how much I knew Charlotte loved her dad just from the few minutes I've known her. "I like your stuffed dog. What's its name?" "Her name is buttercup and she's my bestest fwiend ever." I continued conversation with her while still trying to look for her dad.
Ethan's POV
I had tears in my eyes as I asked people around the bookstore if they had seen Charlotte. I showed each person a photo of her and all of them shook their heads no. I had put my basket of books down and sat in a recliner with my head in my hands. "How could I have been so stupid? I should've been paying more attention and my baby is gone. I can't belie-." "DADDY!" I turned around and saw Lottie running towards me with buttercup in her hands. I scooped her up and hugged her tightly. "Oh Lottie, I'm so glad you're ok. I was so worried." "I'm sowwy daddy. I was looking at the books. I didn't mean to scare you." "It doesn't matter baby. I'm just glad you're ok," I said as I kissed her forehead. "Y/N helped me find you daddy. "Who's Y/‐," I cut myself off as I look up and see the prettiest girl I've ever seen. She had on a colorful cardigan with a white lace bralette and black flared pants. Her afro was so prominent and her skin was glowing in the sunlight that was coming through the bookstore window."Hi, you must be Charlotte's dad! I'm glad I could help her find you. She's a sweetheart." I got up, with Charlotte in my arms, and went to shake her hand. "Yes, I couldn't thank you enough for bringing Lottie back to me. I'm Ethan by the way." "Nice to meet you too Ethan and of course! How could I say no to her cute face?" Lottie giggled and hid her face in my chest. "Lottie, did you say thank you to Y/N?" "Tank you Y/N." "You're welcome." "Daddy, I want to go pway with the toys." "Ok bub. Stay close ok?" She nodded as she ran over to where the toys are and sat down. "Not to be blunt or anything, but I think you're really attractive, I said as I saw Y/N start to blush. "Oh well thank you. I think you're really attractive as well. Do you want to grab a coffee sometime?" "I'm not a coffee guy but I'd love to get brunch with you. My treat." "Sure!" I handed her my phone and she typed in her number. "I'll text you when I'm free. Bye Ethan." She walked up to my face and kissed my cheek and then walked out of the bookstore. "Wow, she is something," I sighed to myself.
