Chapter 6

Ponyboy Curtis POV

"After what happened the other day Johnny hasn't said much to me and it's killing me, I don't know why he's being so distant." I sighed out, leaning on my hands.

"What happened?"Soda said as he was restocking shelves.

"He told me he loved me."Soda stoped what he was doing.

"Did you say it back?"He asked.

"Yeah, I said it back, so I don't know why he's ignoring me."I leaned against the wall.

"Maybe yes afraid you're gonna tell him you don't actually mean it."He said, going back to want he was doing.

"Of course I mean it, at least I think I do, from what you told me about love, I know it enough to understand what love is."I said, standing up to go stand next to him.

"Man, you asking that question all the time really came to use huh?"Soda chuckled a bit.

"Yeah, I guess so."I laughed to myself a bit.

"Hey Dal, Johnny with ya?"I asked as he came up to the DX like he does almost everyday. Sure enough Johnny was right behind him.

"Hey Pony."He said looking down at the ground.

"Hey Johnny."I said back, going up to him.

"You ain't mad at me are ya?"Johnny asked, messing with his hands.

"No Johnny I ain't mad at you."I said hugging him tightly. "I love you Johnny." I whispered to him.

"What."He said with a shaky breath.

"I mean it Johnny."I put my hand on his cheek, running my thumb over the smooth scar. He pressed his lips to mine softly, I kissed him back before pulling away quickly.

"Im sorry I didn't talk to you much these past couple days Pony, I've just been scared you didn't really mean it."He looked down again, avoiding eye contact.

"I wouldn't have said it back if I didn't mean it JohnnyCake." I kissed his cheek.

"Come on Johnny, lets go."Dally said, pushing his hair to the side.

"Can I stay here?"Johnny asked, Dally thought for a second.

"Or Ponyboy can come with us?"Dally offered, I nodded and Johnny smiled.

"Im taking the kid Soda."Dally yelled, Soda nodded and we went on our way.

"Darry, I'm going out to the lot."I said, going to the door.

"Alright don't stay out to late."Darry told me. I nodded in response and went out the door and down the road to the lot.
I saw Johnny sitting on the curb in-front of the vacant lot.
I say down next to him and put my arm over his shoulder.

"Hey Pony." Johnny said leaning on my shoulder.

"Are you okay JohnnyCake?"I moved his head to look at me.

"I hate it at home, they are always fighting and yelling and it gets too much, I know they don't care about me but their fighting puts it on me and I hate it so much Ponyboy."He started to sob.

"Oh Johnny please don't cry."I hugged him tightly."Im sorry you have to go through all that."

"Oh Pony its not your fault, I just don't know how much more I can take of this."Johnny said, holding his face in his hands.

"Im sorry I can't do much to help, you're welcome to stay with me for a while, I'm sure Darry would understand."I leaned down to try and see his face.

"My parents won't even notice if I just left, they wouldn't even care if I died Ponyboy."Johnny said though broken sobs.

"Oh Johnny."I pulled him down so his face is on my shoulder.

"Im sorry." Johnny had my shirt in his grasp.

"Johnny, look at me."I grabbed his face, making him look at me."I'm sorry you have to go through all that."

"I love you."He said quietly, softly sobbing.

"I love you too Johnny."I smiled at him. He smiled back weakly before leaning up to press his lips to mine, I softly kissed him back before pulling away. "It's getting late."

"Yeah."He replied while closing his eyes

"Let's go back to my house."I said, waiting for him to move so I could get up. Johnny soon moved off me and we walked down the road to my house.

Johnny and I walked in, Soda and Darry were in the living room, Both watching some television program or something.

"Hey."Soda said to us but they turned back to watch.  Johnny and I saw down on the couch next to soda as the Television played in the background, I was awfully tired it my eyes were getting blurry and it was hard to see, my vision soon with dark and I know I had fallen asleep.
