Ponyboys POV

The sun rose slowly, today is the fifth day of being in this church. Johnny and I lay on the pews, getting terrible sleep, every night is either sleepless or awful, tossing and turning on the hard ground or on the pews.

There was some noise, at the door, I played it off as a animal or wind. I soon felt someone touching my face and hair.

"Hey Blondie"Dally said, waking me up.
"Aye Johnny, wake up man." He said, kicking the leg of the pew.

"Hey dal, how have you been?"I asked, sitting up.

"Special delivery for Ponyboy Curtis."Dally said, handing me a a letter, I opened it and read it to myself, the letter said "Ponyboy,
Well I guess you got into some trouble, huh? Darry and me nearly went nuts when you ran out like that. Darry is awfully sorry he hit you. You know he didn't mean it. And then you and Johnny turned up missing and what with that dead kid in the park and Dally getting hauled into the station, well it scared us something awful. The police came by to question us and we told them as much as we could. I can't believe little old Johnny could kill somebody. I know Dally knows where you are, but you know him. He keeps his trap shut and wont tell me nothing. Darry hasn't got the slightest notion where your at and it's nearly killing him. I wish you'd come back and turn your selves in but I guess you can't since Johnny might get hurt. You sure are famous. You got a paragraph in the newspaper even. Take care and say hi to Johnny for us. -Sodapop Curtis."

I feel bad for worrying them. I know Darry hit me, I knew he didn't mean it but I was still shaken up about it.

"You guys hungry?"Dally asked, looking back between the two of us.

"Try bologna for four days."Johnny joked. I knew we were both tired of it, I can't look at bologna ever again.

We picked up the few things we brought and got in Dallas' car.

"Whose car is this?" Johnny asked, as he got in the passenger seat next, I got in the back behind him.

"Ah Bucks." Dal said, speeding off away from the church.

"Dal don't." I yelled, his reckless driving was awful. Johnny was as freaked out as I was. Once we got on the real road it was worse. All the other cars around us and Dally's awful driving.

He eventually pulled into the Dairy Queen and ordered something for all of us. I wasn't listening to what, I was looking around shook up for this awful driving but more hoping no one noticed us. I eventually saw him hand me a drink and a paper wrapped sandwich. We parked and started eating.

"The kid you killed had plenty of friends, it's all across town, "Soc against grease", look, started carrying a heater." He pulled out his gun.

"You kill people with heaters."

"Calm down it's not loaded." Dally said. He put it in the center console and we drove off.
I looked around, being cautious someone would notice us. That's when I saw it. The smoke. The smoke coming from the old church. How had that happened?
We had noticed the group of children around it, the teachers asking where some of the kids were.
My actions were selfless, I jumped out the of the car, running towards the church, I heard Johnny follow after me.
Johnny and I ripped into the church, looking for the kids.

"That guy coming." I asked, looking back.

"No!"Johnny yelled back, ripping toting wood away.

"Too scared?" I asked.

"No too fat man."He yelled back, I chuckled a bit but then focused back on the burning building.
Once we found the children, I went to grab them, the little girl had bit my hand and I handed her off to Johnny who had helped them through a window. The building was burning fast. It was quickly engulfing in the flames. We had gotten all the kids out, Dallas trying to pull the two of us out but the church began to fall, Dallas pulled me out, throwing me on the ground.
The last thing I remember is Johnny's yell before it going dark.
