When everything was said and done, Luz realized that it wasn't some cruel joke. Her mother had really died. And on the plane back to Bonesborough, she broke into tears. She really was gone and Ed's was to be their new mother.
Yesterday was orientation. But with everything that was happening, Luz could not care less. Hexside didn't seem as appealing now.
"Hey Luz," Eda stood at the door of Luz's new room, a little less ruggedly elegant than she usually did
"Hey Eda"
"How's packing going?"
"Not that hard since I had most of my stuff in the suitcase anyway" Luz closed her suitcase and placed back on the floor
"You excited?" Luz shook her head
"Yeah kid. I get that"
"Please don't give me a pep talk"
"No I'm not here to give you a pep talk" Eda let herself in "I'm here to ask that you don't give up on Hexside. For your mom" Luz pushes herself onto Eda. A hug. She needed that at least for now
"Hexside feels like an old wish"
"Yeah, then honor it. For the old and the new you"
"Ok" Luz sniffled
"Good, now stop hugging me" Eda pushed Luz away softly which earned a chuckle from Luz
"Tomorrow, Hexside. In a few years, a publishing company" Eda smiled
"Thanks Eda"
"Don't mention it, kid. Seriously"
