Waking up in the morning was difficult. Hunter woke up panting as his heart raced and his cheeked stained. Usually, it didn't take this long to calm down. But his breathing rate only increased and the hitches were shorter.
Fortunately, he calmed down sooner or he would not be able to get out of bed. And well, he needed to.
"Good Morning, handsome" have it been someone else. Anyone else "how'd you sleep?" Of course Edric had found him. Though, Hunter didn't really go anywhere else. Call the café his safe space
"Fine" he grumbled, sipping his coffee
"Great. I was wondering—"
"No."
"No?" Edric raised his eyebrow and smirked. This man was usually the shy one, believe it or not, but messing with Hunter gave him a push. A different kind of push
"I'm busy"
"Busy with?"
"Ignoring you" Hunter muttered
"Ouch" Edric chuckled
"Fine, What did you have in mind?" The way Hunter easily folded made Edric put on a bigger grin. And it was that grin that made Hunter's heart sink to his stomach in fear

Great, today was detention. And unfortunately, Hexside wasn't the type to give sitting-in-an-empty room type of detention. They'd be in ugly grey uniforms. If Amity's mom found out she was going to detention—let's just say the holidays would be 20 times less fun.
"Alright everyone," Amity turned her head to face the person in front of the crowd "here are the rules: no phones or electronic devices, you have one two breaks in between rounds and the first one here after round here, can leave early. Understand?" A few nods and grumbles came in response. "Ok. Go, go, go"
Everyone bolted. Amity hadn't known this but the first checkpoint always three less water bottles. If you weren't there, that was your problem. Even so, she did not want to get left behind.
There were about 12 people here, including Luz and her siblings. Not that she wanted to avoid them, but she hadn't talked to them yet. She just wanted to get the job done
Amity was the first one at checkpoint, so, she was able to get a bottle of water and some rest. But only for five minutes and she had to run again. And again she was the first one at the second checkpoint. There, she needed to grab a ring from under the mud. The color on her wrist meant that was the color ring she needed to even make it to the next checkpoint. Unfortunately, it took longer to find it than she hoped. In the struggle and grunting, Luz came to her smiling.
"Do you need help?" Luz asked
"No" Amity did not mean to sound rude but she needed to focus. The last one to finish round one would have to do it again. And Amity did not want to do that.
"You're struggling, Come on, let me help"
"You are going to be last if you help me"
"So?"
"What? You don't care?" Amity looked up after looking at the mud for so long
"Not really" Luz shrugged "I'm just here for the ride"
"And because you have to be here"
"And that" Amity chuckled
"Fine"
"What's your color?"
"Green" Amity answered
"Ok cool. Green green green..." Luz searched around, only to find nothing. And Amity was running out of patience. It had been half an hour already and they were the last ones there. How hard could it be to find a stupid plastic ring?
After another twenty minutes, they found the ring. They were now behind and had to run. This mountain wasn't going to climb itself.
"I feel like this school wants us to fail" Luz said while running
"Trust me, it does" with another turn at a tree, they reach another checkpoint. Alas, there was no water for the both of them
"Great" Amity mumbled
Then next challenge was to collect ten pieces of coin. In the forest! Hexside is a nightmare. Luckily, Amity had Luz, they worked together and within a few minutes of looking, they were able to find ten coins each.
Alas they made it to the last checkpoint...last. It was already two pm and there was one more round. Why couldn't they just make the detention kids run a soup kitchen or something?
Round two. This time there were no checkpoints. They had to clean out the forest of the ridiculous mess they made during round one. And after that, the last ones from round two would do round one again, only to clean it up. Again!
"I can't take it anymore" Luz flopped in front of a tree, groaning.
"You got us into this mess in the first place" Amity said
"Nope, your siblings did" Luz countered
"Speaking of which, where are they?"

Edric only went to detention so that his name would be on the absent list. Within twenty minutes, he left looking for a certain blonde. They had plans today after all.
"This is very chill of you. What are you planning?" Edric snickered.
"Sometimes, I like the quiet, blondie" it was true. Edric was always up for fun but right now, he had a different idea. He moved the vibes out of their faces, continuing to walk until they reached a cliff
"What? Planning to murder me?" Hunter said, only partial joking
"You're not a very trusting person, are you?" Hunter said nothing
"Sit" Edric sat at the ledge and Hunter did the same
"This place is I pretty" Hunter said
"I know" Edric smiled
"Why bring me here?" Honestly, Hunter didn't really need to know. But he was curious as to why Hunter was chosen to see this place
"Think Of this as a uh—a date"
"A what?"
"A date" Edric said softer
"Hm? A date? Ok"
