5 months later, Meredith was coming towards 38 weeks pregnant. She had struggled, this pregnancy had been tough and she had no one by her side to help her through it. There had been times when she cried herself to sleep thinking how much of a mistake she had made and how much she needed her mom but then a quick movement from her baby girl reminded her that she was not alone.

Her professors had been kind to her and no one had said anything rude to her apart from some boys when she first started showing more obviously. She managed to keep up with her school work and had passed all her summer exams but now she was on summer break and wouldn't be returning to classes until her maternity was over.

She had made one good friend at Dartmouth and that was Alex. She met him when they were both doing laundry at the same time, they quickly realised they were both med students and became really close. He was really supportive of Meredith and her pregnancy and had really looked after her when she was down. There was times when he had spent the night on the sofa in her room when she cried herself to sleep and his heart broke for her and the torment she was putting herself through. But now her pregnancy was coming to an end and she felt good.

"Alex!" Meredith shouted as she swung her head through his open door.

"What Mer?" He shouted back from his bathroom.

"I'm starving, want to grab some lunch?"

"Sure, let me just finish getting ready."

Meredith sat herself down on one of his barstools that was placed on the small counter, she spotted a bag of chips and a smile grew on her face and she leaned over and grabbed them.

"You just use me for food." Alex joked as he walked in a few minutes later.

"You have good snacks, baby likes good snacks." She giggled rubbing her belly.

"Where do you want to go for lunch?"

"Um, we could go to the new Italian place on the Main Street?" She offered.

"We can do." Alex nodded.

"So, what food is baby feeling like today?"

"Pizza, pasta, no pizza... no, pasta, definitely pasta." She smiled.

"Your funny Mer." He laughed.

"It's not my fault that baby is indecisive." She shrugged.

"I'm not so sure you can blame everything on baby."

She smacked his shoulder playfully and they both laughed as they sat in the car and Alex started to drive.

"So, are you scared for baby to come? It's getting pretty close." He asked.

"I am. I'm terrified to give birth but I know that once she's here, it will all be worth it so I'm excited to meet her." She smiled at the thought of meeting her daughter.

"Have you decided whether your gonna call your mom to come up? Or-"

"Don't say it. And no, I haven't thought about either of them, you'll be there right?" She looked at him.

"If you want me to be there then I'll be there Mer." He smiled at her before turning his attention back to the road.

"Good." She nodded.

"Oh my god. That was amazing." She moaned as she ate the last bit of her brownie.

"You know Mer, I really hope someone here isn't blind because the sounds coming from you, I'm scared to imagine what they'll think." Alex laughed.
