When Meredith pulled her car into the drive way outside her house, her mother was already home. She loved her mom, she really did but sometimes she wished for an empty house so that she could just be alone. Her mind was on overdrive especially after she shared a kiss with Derek. She was confused, she knew she had a feeling for him but she couldn't decipher what exactly it was, she wondered if he felt the same or if he had only kissed her because he felt sorry for her. A conversation between them would be good, that way it would help her understand where they stood with each other but Derek was a friend first and she was afraid that if she involved herself in anything more than a friendship with him, she would ruin what they had.

A knock on her car window made her jump and she turned to see her mom frowning at her so she pulled her keys out of the ignition and opened her door, grabbing her school bag in the process.

"Everything okay Meredith?" Ellis asked curiously.

"I'm fine." She sighed.

Ellis chose not to say anything more until the got inside. The principal has called her to let her know that Meredith had not been present for the last two periods, she knew Meredith struggled with her thoughts and it killed her to see that she bottled everything up until she broke so she always tried to make Meredith talk. They both walked in and sat on the sofa in silence, Meredith sitting on the opposite sofa to Ellis.

"Did you have a good day at school?" Ellis watched her closely as she shifted.

"It was okay. Just the usual." she avoided eye contact.

"Oh really? I thought you'd have to actually go to school to know that." Ellis said firmly. She was angry with Meredith but knew that there would be more to the story.

Meredith's head shot up and she quickly replied, "what? what do you mean?"

"The principal called me to tell me you hadn't turned up for your last two periods. Where were you?"

"I was there." Meredith lied.

"Cut the crap Meredith. I know when your lying."

"How?" She asked.

"I'm not giving that away, but nice try. What happened Meredith?" Ellis said seriously.

"Nothing, I just didn't want to be there.",

"So what? You just decided to take a walk! You can't do that Mer, you know better than this!" Ellis raised her voice, she was concerned about how unbothered Meredith seemed.

"Oh please, it was one day." Meredith rolled her eyes.

"It doesn't matter Meredith! Where were you!"

"No where."

"I swear to god Meredith! Tell me where you were or your grounded for the next month."

"I'm 17, you can't ground me." Meredith scoffed.

"I'm your mother and as long as your living under my roof, you follow my rules! Now tell me where you were. Who was with you?"

Meredith blushed and stayed silent thinking about Derek.

"You were with a boy weren't you. God Meredith are you stupid!" Ellis shouted, she was becoming frustrated.

"So what if I was?" Meredith replied rudely.

"Meredith what the hell is going on with you!"

"Nothing is going on with me! What is your problem!?" She argued.

"Who's the boy? Are you doing drugs with him? Are you having sex with him? Don't you dare lie to me Meredith."

Meredith scoffed, "do you think I'm some kind of whore? Your pathetic."
