As Derek left his bathroom and got himself ready, he went downstairs into the kitchen to find his mom and older sister Nancy.
"Derek! How's Meredith and the baby?" Carolyn rushed over embracing him in a hug.
She took one look at him and could tell he was exhausted.
"She was still out last time I heard anything. She needs to wake up mom." He whispered.
"She will Derek because she has you and your beautiful baby to look forward too. Just give her body some time to heal, from what I understand she suffered quite a severe brain injury." Carolyn reassured him.
"I know." He muttered as he fell onto the chair, lying his head against his arms on the counter.
"I bet you never thought Derek would give you the first grandchild mom." Nancy made a point.
He knew what she was doing, she was trying to get under his skin, trying to gain some kind of reaction, he focused on not giving her what she wanted.
"No, I didn't expect it but that's not to say I won't love it just as much as I would any others." She smiled.
"Yeah, do you like Meredith?"
"Of course I like Meredith, I think she's a wonderful girl."
"You wouldn't like some of the stories I've heard about her then." Nancy snorted.
"What the hell is your problem?" Derek snapped.
"Excuse me?" Nancy responded shocked at her younger brothers reaction.
Derek watched her carefully, he could see her eyes light up with what looked like amusement.
"Right now Meredith is lying in a hospital bed fighting for her life and the life of my child and all you can do is sit there and bad mouth her on things you have no idea about. Why don't you just shut your mouth for once!" Derek snapped.
"Derek!" Carolyn retorted.
"What!? Are you just going to let her sit there and say things like that?" He turned to his mom.
"Wow, I would sure say she's changed your personality." Nancy joked.
"Nancy I swear to god." Derek stood up.
"All I'm saying is she acts all innocent but is that the truth? How well do you really know her Derek?" Nancy continued to wind him up.
"What are you talking about?" Derek frowned.
"That boy she was all over at Marks party at the start of the school year, his girlfriend is in my chemistry class, she told me all about it." Nancy laughed.
"You have no idea what your talking about. I watched what happened. I watched her as she fought that guys hands away from her skirt, I watched her have a panic attack in my car because of what happened. So if your going to talk crap about my girlfriend, get your own crap sorted." He snapped and Nancy stared him down before walking away.

Derek was having a tough time today, everything had just got to him and he couldn't control his anger. He was so angry at the world, at himself, at Meredith. He didn't have a reason to be angry at her but he was, he was angry because she wasn't awake.
He walked back through the corridors of the hospital and reached Meredith's room but was soon stopped by Ellis who was walking back with a fruit cup.
"Your not longer allowed to be in there. Goodbye Derek." Ellis snorted.
"What?" He asked confused.
"You heard me." She snarled.
Derek looked at her as she stared him down, he was so confused.
"It's your own fault. Everything comes with a price am I right?" Her eyebrows raised.
It took him a few seconds to realise what she meant, Meredith had told her what had happened. Meredith had told her. Told her. She was awake.
"Mers awake?!" Derek gasped.
"Leave." She said sternly.
"Ellis please, you have to let me in and explain."
"I don't have to do anything. She deserves so much better than you, I thought you were good for her but you turned out to be nothing but a disappointment. Stay away from my daughter."
"Ellis I'm begging you."
"Beg all you want, she doesn't want to see you. She needs to stay calm for the baby and seeing you is not going to do that. Go home Derek."
"I know. I'm so sorry please tell her that, please make sure she knows. I'm such an idiot, I made that bet the first day of school, I never thought anything would come if it, it was just some stupid joke." He frowned holding back his tears.
"I don't want to hear your pathetic excuses, your old enough to take responsibility for your actions. You completely betrayed her trust and used her like she was some kind of game that was to be passed around. Am I wrong?"
"I never meant to hurt her you have to believe me, it was just some stupid thing Mark and I did. I love her. Please Ellis, please."
"You expect me to believe anything that comes out of your mouth? Your either incapable of standing up against your boy or you have no respect for women. Which one is it?" She questioned.
"I-I" he stuttered.
"Leave or I'll call security to drag your ass home. We don't want to see you until the foreseeable." She spat and closed Meredith's hospital door in his face.
He stood there, his heart breaking and the tears finally dragged down his face. Why was he so stupid. He didn't even want to do the bet in the first place, Ellis was right he clearly couldn't stand up to Mark otherwise he wouldn't be in this position. He lifted his phone from his pocket.
"I'm so sorry Mer. With every bone in my body. I will never be able to apologise enough. Please, let me explain everything to you. I need you and I can't loose you and our baby. I love you, let me know when your ready to talk. <3"
His fingers hovered over the '<3', not sure if it was a good idea but he couldn't not. His heart belonged to her and he would do everything he can to make this right. After all, it was his doing.
