It was now late November, and as unexpectedly as ever, Meredith found herself sat in a makeup chair getting ready for homecoming.

Derek had done a small proposal to her when they went to her favourite dessert shop on their Saturday date night. They got a small red velvet  cake to take home with them and once she opened the cake box when they were sat in her bedroom the letters on the cake spelt out, "homecoming?". She was hesitant at first because she didn't even want to go but it was Derek asking her, and that made her want to go.

She and Addison went and bought their dresses together, Meredith had picked a deep red skater skirt dress that lay across her collar bones and settles at her shoulders and Addison opted for a dark green, more fitted dress that had a drill at the bottom and thin shoulder straps.

Hours later both girls were ready and their hair and makeup looked perfect with their dresses, they were both ecstatic with excitement as they waited for their dates. To both Meredith and Derek's surprise, Addison had agreed to accompany Mark, so here they were going as a double date.

"You look stunning." Derek told her as she opened the door and he kissed her cheek.

"You don't look to bad yourself." She blushed as she straightened his tie that matched the colour of her dress.

Derek just stood looking at her in awe, she truly was the most beautiful girl he'd ever laid his eyes on and she was his. Asking her to be his girlfriend was one of the best things he ever did, of course, her agreeing to be topped it.

"Der stop staring, I'm not going anywhere." Meredith giggled.

"I know, you just- you really do look beautiful Mer. I don't know what I done to deserve you."

"Cheesy Der." Her nose scrunched, "but thank you."

They looked into each other's eyes and gently kissed before a clearing throat interrupted them. They both looked up.

"Sorry Mrs Grey but can you blame me. Look at her." Derek said as he took Meredith's hand and spun her around.

"I suppose. You do look gorgeous Meredith, I'm so proud of you." Ellis told her.

"Come here, I have something for you."

Meredith looked at her mother curiously before sitting next to her on the staircase.

"I wanted to give you this because I didn't want you to miss out. I know that usually it's the fathers job to gift their daughters but you were too good for him and you still are, so I will do the honours myself. I hope you like it Meredith." Ellis said as she handed Meredith a small box which contained a silver dainty bracelet with a small heart on and matching earrings.

"It's beautiful mom. I love it, thank you so much. Thank you for everything." Meredith said as the tears in her eyes threatened to spill.

"Hey, no crying, you don't want to ruin your makeup." Ellis joked.

"I know, I love you so much mom, please don't ever forget that."

"I hate to interrupt Mer but we have to go, the car is waiting for us." Addison said nervously as she approached the two.

They had danced all night, Mark had successfully spiked the punch and everyone had the time of their lives. Meredith didn't drink any of the alcoholic punch and neither did Derek mainly because they just didn't like the way it tasted when mixed with so much fruit. But now as the night was coming to an end, a new chapter was opening for Meredith as she lay next to Derek, his hands flowing through her hair.

"Der." Meredith broke the silence.

"Yeah?" Derek replied.

She took a deep breath before her next words, "I- I'm ready."

"Ready for what?" Derek asked, his eyes still closed enjoying the feel of her soft hair against his fingertips.

"Der look at me." and he did.

"I'm ready." She repeated looking into his eyes, gently nodding her head as she saw the realisation in his eyes.

"Mer, are you sure? I- I mean, I can wait, we don't have to if your not ready." He quickly replied.

"Der I promise, it's okay, I am ready and I want this." She said as she leaned closer to him.

"Are you sure?" He asked again.

She confirmed by kissing him softly and that evening they're relationship changed.

"T-that was amazing." Meredith said breathlessly as he kissed her head.

"It was." Derek replied tightly hugging her waist.

"Tha-thank you." Meredith laughed.

"My pleasure. Thank you." Derek told her, his own breath catching up with him.

They sat in a comfortable silence for five minutes.

"Mer?" He asked

"Yeah?" She said turning around in his arms to face him.

He watched her face before opening his mouth, "I love you."

Meredith gently frowned in shock and happiness, "I- I love you too."

He smiled at her response and captured her lips once again.
