Outed and Ousted

I was three months pregnant and we were down to the last week of our senior year. It was the end of May and morning sickness had a Vulcan death grip on my intestines. I quickly asked if I could be excused from class. My teacher must have taken pity on me and just nodded as I hurried from the room and down the hall. I slammed the bathroom door shut behind me and ran to the last stall, barely locking it before I emptied the contents of my stomach into the toilet bowl. I sit back against the wall, holding my stomach. "God that was awful." I mumble before flushing the toilet and exiting the stall.

I jump a little when I see our friend Tara standing next to one of the sinks. "Oh my god! You're pregnant!" She yells. I put my hand over her mouth.

"Would you keep your voice down? No one knows."

She looks at me shocked. "Chris doesn't know you're pregnant? Is it even his baby then?"

"Tara you can be such a bitch sometimes. Of course Chris knows and obviously it's his baby." I say, rolling my eyes. "You can't tell anyone. Chris doesn't want anyone to know yet." She nods before we walk back to class together and I don't think any more of the interaction.

At lunch I start feeling nauseous again as the various smells from the varying degrees of edible food start to overwhelm me. "Are you ok? You're looking a little green." Chris tells me, worry in his eyes.

I nod, swallowing down the vomit that's threatening to come out. "I'll be fine. But I think I'm only going to have a sprite for lunch today." I say as I grab one.

We go and sit at our normal table and all of our friends are gathered there. They all get quiet when we sit down. "What's up?" Chris asks them.

"We were wondering if Presley would be able to graduate now that she's PREGNANT?!" Tara asks loudly and the entire cafeteria goes silent.

"Tara, what the hell?!" Chris yells at her.

"What? Are you sure it's even yours? If she was dumb enough to get pregnant, then she was dumb enough to cheat?" Tara says, feigning innocence.

Tears start to well up behind my eyes and I get myself up from the bench and run out of the cafeteria. I make it to the bathroom before I lean against the wall and sink to the floor, tears rolling down my cheeks as my vision gets blurry. There's a knock on the bathroom door. "Go away." I say, my voice shaking from crying.

"Pres, it's me." Scott is on the other side of the door. I open it and he takes in my appearance.

"Where's Chris?" I ask, looking down the hallway.

"The lunch aid took him to the principal's office. I was told to come find you and take you there too." He says sadly.

"Chris didn't do anything stupid after I left, did he?" I ask as we walk to the front of the school.

"No. I mean he told Tara off for outing you both but other than that no." We stop outside the office. "I was just told to bring you. I'll see you after school, ok?" I nod and he hugs me. "It's gonna be ok Presley." He assures me. I nod again before opening the door to the office and watch Scott walk back to lunch.

Chris is sitting there waiting for me. "They're in with our parents now." He whispers as the secretary gives him a dirty look.

"Wow, that was fast." I say as I try to look through the closed blinds into the office. Our parents come out 20 minutes later, all looking flustered and slightly angry.

"Let's go." My dad tells us both, pointing towards the door.

"But our bags..." I start to say.

"Your siblings will grab them." Lisa says as she takes Chris's arm and my mom takes mine.

"What's going on?" I ask.

"We'll talk about it when we get home." Mom says as we exit the building.

...

We're back home again and sitting in the same loveseat as before but our parents are all standing in front of us, towering over us. "It seems that your principal has decided that since there's hardly anything happening between now and graduation that you should be excused from school." My mom began.

Chris and I turned to each other, confused. Neither of us were really seeing a downside to that. Apparently our moms picked up on that because Lisa continued. "They think you'll provide too much of a distraction for the other kids and as such will be staying home for the rest of the year."

"And your attendance at graduation is still a topic for the next administration meeting." Mr. Evans added.

"For fucks sake! Are you kidding me?" I yell out, finally fed up. "I'm pregnant, not some type of diseased leper. No one is going to catch the pregnancy from me if they stand too close."

"Well be that as it may, its being taken under consideration and we should know by next week." My dad finishes out.

"And what happens if we're uninvited to our own graduation? What then?"

"You'll look forward to what's next. Getting married and setting up before the baby comes." My mom whispers, moving a strand of hair out of my face. I turn to Chris and his expression is the same. This is total fucking bull shit.
