The rest of the week Chris and I were like ships passing in the night. I knew he was coming home, his hot breath on my neck when I woke up at one in the morning was proof of that, but he was gone, out the door before I had finished getting the kids ready for school each morning.
He wasn't supposed to work this weekend so I had asked my mom if she could take the kids so we could have some time just the two of us. She had been thrilled, a little too excited to steal my babies but I needed to figure out what was going on with their dad... and I had a feeling it was going to end in an argument.
...
I'm sitting in the kitchen with the lights off when I hear Chris's keys in the door. He comes in quietly, softly stepping in and heading to the fridge. "Seriously? Do you have any idea what time it is? Where have you been?" I flip on the lights.
"Jeez Presley! Why the hell are you sitting in the dark?"
"I've been waiting for my husband to get home because I haven't really seen him all week. Honestly, for the past few weeks."
"I've been working late."
"Well that's a load of bull shit. I called my dad hours ago and he said you left at 5 with everyone else."
"You called your dad to check up on me?"
"You didn't answer your phone. For all I knew, you were dead in a ditch somewhere. And while we're on the subject of you not answering your phone, where the hell were you that you couldn't pick your daughter up from dance on Tuesday?"
He sighs angrily. "I don't have to take this!" He says as he slams his dishes down in the sink and heads to the stairs. I stop him before he exits the kitchen.
"Are you having an affair?"
