"So what's your schedule look like for this coming week?" I ask Chris one Monday morning about a month later as we work together to get lunches ready as the kids eat their breakfast.
"I only have class Tuesday and Thursday this week."
"Ok, I'll see about having my mom or yours take one of the kids to their practice on Thursday. And don't forget we have that appointment on Wednesday and your mom is picking the kids up and keeping them for dinner so don't be late."
"I won't be." He says before kissing me and heading out the door to work.
*Wednesday Afternoon*
"You two seem to be in better spirits than last week when we spoke." Our therapist says as we sit in her office Wednesday afternoon.
"We are. Or at least I think we are." I say, before looking to Chris to see if he agrees.
"Yeah. Things have been going better. We're communicating a lot more openly."
"That's good. And Chris, you're handling class and work and home-life alright?"
He nods. "It's been a lot easier now. And football season is almost over for Brady so we're gearing up for one last tournament."
"He's been doing a really good job this year. I think the extra time Chris has spent with him tossing the ball around in the backyard has helped."
"I don't know about that. But we enjoy the extra time together so I'll take it."
The therapist writes down something on her pad. "I'm really proud of the improvement I've seen since you both starting coming. It's not hard to see that you both really love each other and want to make things right."
"I mean, he's all I ever wanted, since before he's been aware of it probably." I say softly.
"I've known I've loved you since fifth grade." He turns to me and takes my hand. I feel tears prick the corner of my eyes.
"I think that's time on this week. Enjoy the rest of your night and we'll pick up again next Wednesday." We nod before Chris takes my hand and we walk out of the office.
"So Ma has the kids. Wanna go grab dinner?"
"That sounds perfect."
...
"I had a really great time tonight." I say as I lay my head against Chris's chest in our bed later that night.
"Me too. We should make this a weekly thing."
"I agree."
My eyes flutter shut but not before I hear him whisper, "I love you," in my ear.
