Are They Warm Now?

"Where is he?" I ask, panicking. The ceremony was supposed to start 15 minutes ago and Chris was no where to be seen. He wasn't answering his cell and I stopped wasting both of our minutes by trying to call him.

"I'm sure he just overslept or something." Lisa says as they all watch me continue to pace.

"Scott?" I ask, turning to him.

"When I went to yell at him to get up this morning he was already up and ready to go. Nothing seemed wrong."

"He wouldn't do this to me, right?" Carly comes up and places a comforting arm around my shoulder.

"Hey, we'll find him." She says, rubbing my shoulder.

"Someone help me get this damn thing off." I say, pulling at the dress that was already suffocating me. Shana and Carly follow me into the bathroom at the courthouse and help me get the dress off, placing it back in the garment bag before handing me the sweats and over-sized t-shirt I stole from Chris. We go back out to our families. "And that concludes today's festivities. When I find him you'll know because they'll be reporting a murder on the news." I say before grabbing my bag and keys and heading out to my car.

There's only one place I could think that he would go and so I make my way to the "Lookout". The Lookout was the spot to go in high school, late at night, to hook up. During the day, though, it provided an amazing view of Sudbury and Boston. I pull up and his car is there. I sigh, turning off the engine and getting out, finding him on a picnic table, lost in thought. I say nothing as I join him, staring out across the city.

"I'm sorry." He says after several minutes of silence. "I didn't mean to upset you today. It was just... I couldn't... I don't know. But I'm sorry I hurt you Presley."

"Why didn't you at least tell me? I understand that this is a lot. I'm in this with you. Actually I think I'm in this a little more than you because you're not going to be pushing a bowling ball out of your junk in 6 months." I laugh a bit and it seems to put him at ease. "Can you please tell me why you didn't come?"

"There's just so much I'm going to miss out on. Dreams that I had had that are now going down the drain. I love you and I won't leave you to raise a child we both had a hand in making, but I get caught up in thinking about L.A. and the life I thought I was going to have and it got me in my head too much."

I take a deep breath so I don't start yelling. "You think you're the only one who's had to readjust their life goals. Chris, I wanted to go to college and yeah, that can still happen, eventually. Just like we can work to make L.A. happen for you. But I can't do this alone. I need you with me in this." I look over at him and he has tears in his eyes just like I do. "Just because the plans change doesn't mean the future won't still be great. It's just a different picture."

He hugs me and I release a deep breath. "I'm sorry about today."

"It's ok. We can always go next week, if you're ok with that."

"Yeah. That sounds like a plan."

"What are we on at this point, plan c?" I ask with a laugh.

"Nope, just plan b." He says and walks me to my car, opening the door for me. He gives me a kiss. "I'll see you back at your parents' place, where I will be apologizing profusely to everyone."

"You're ok. It's only natural to get cold feet."

"Well, they're toasty warm now."

"Good. I'll see you in 15 minutes." I say and we each head out, him following me back to my house.
