Patrick's POV
It's been two weeks since Shareen, the guys and I have started working on the song. At first, it was just Pete, Shareen and me locked up in Pete's house trying to work on the lyrics. I've already had experience with working with the annoying little hairball that is Pete, but Shareen hasn't which frustrated her pretty often and we ended up with nothing. But then, we started to get into it. Shareen started getting her words out and joining them with Pete's, somehow I got out everything I've been wanting to say and everything fit together like the song was just waiting for us to come together.
A week later, the lyrics were done and we all went to Joe's house to start working on the music. This was the fastest I was able to get a song out. I couldn't help think that it's because of Shareen and how much she's poured into me since we met.
There's been days when I wanted to talk to Shareen about us, but I didn't want to ruin the flow of the song. She did tell me that she hasn't really spoken to Chuck since their fight, always telling him she's busy with the song and stuff with her manager.
"I'm not really in the mood to talk to him." She told me. "I mean, I've been wanting to ask him about the . . . thing, but I'm just scared to find out. I'd rather avoid him until I can just do it."
I haven't said anything else about the subject, but I am silently waiting for it to happen.
We were at Joe's house again, the guys sitting at the computer listening to what we had recorded while Shareen and I sat on Joe's couch on the other side of the room. We were holding hands, something we had gotten into the habit of doing, even though it probably didn't mean much to Shareen. Pete kept telling me it couldn't just mean nothing, but it was hard to believe him.
"Can I ask you something?" Shareen asked.
"Of course." I said, slightly worried.
"I've. . . I've been thinking about talking to Chuck about the whole cheating thing. If he is. . . I should break up with him, right?"
I sighed. "Yeah, you should. You don't need someone like that in your life, you deserve to be loved."
"And you're saying that because you're my best friend and you love me, right?" She asked.
"There's no other reason." I lied.
"Good." She whispered.
"I think we're done here!" Pete exclaimed, waving his arms in the air.
"Really?" Shareen gasped, jumping out of her seat.
"Totally!" Joe shouted.
"Oh my gosh this is really great!" Shareen jumped up and down on the spot, clapping happily. I smiled at her. "Play the whole thing as loud as it can go!"
Andy turned to the computer and started blasting out the new song. I think I was mesmerized as I listened to it, thinking that this couldn't be me at all. It didn't sound like it, at least. It sounded like someone so much happier, desperate, it was everything I had become.
And then there was Shareen's voice, the words she said, the way she sang them. It was everything. I don't think I could have ever imagined it sounding any better than the way it sounded with my voice. We were like two voices that had finally found each other and become this one thing. It sounded really cheesy and stupid, but those were the words my head could form for this.
The song ended and Shareen was grinning so big and wide that it hardly fit on her face. I could feel the same smile on my face.
"I really wasn't expecting that." Shareen said softly. "I think I died halfway through the song and came back to life." She giggled.
