Patrick's Point of View
"Hello?" I asked as I answered my phone. I was woken up by the sound, my voice sounded groggy and far away.
"Patrick, listen I need to ask you something." It was Pete and he sounded nervous.
"What is it?" I sat up straight in my bed and tried to rub the sleep from my eyes.
"I got a call from our manager and he wants us to go to an interview on MTV with Shareen." He explained. "At first I was like 'Yeah! Let's do it!', but then I remembered how she was last night and I don't know if it's a good idea anymore."
"What do you mean? How was she last night?" I demanded.
I scrambled up from Joe's couch and rushed to the kitchen to find my keys. Joe was in there scrolling through his phone. He didn't look up as I ran in there, only handed me my keys as if he had known all along that I would need them. I smiled at him and rushed out, heading towards the door in a rush.
"Oh . . ." Pete said, sounding so nervous I pictured him biting his lip and looking all around himself. "I don't know if she wanted me to tell you about this or not, but you're my best friend and you deserve to know."
"Get to the point, Pete." I said, walking to my car and getting in.
I found myself incredibly desperate to rush over to Shareen's house and see how she was. She hadn't called me when she got home or texted me back after I wished her good luck, I didn't know how things had gone with Chuck and if she was okay. I hardly slept last night thinking about how things could have gone but I thought about what Valery had told me yesterday afternoon, about how fragile Shareen was and that I shouldn't pressure her into anything.
I thought that she was right, maybe if I made it seem like I was forcing her into something she would get angry and push me away. That was the last thing I wanted and even though I was worried and wanted nothing more than to wrap her in my arms every second that I could, the best thing was just to give her space to get past her problems.
"Last night, I was at home with Meagan and we were playing games with Bronx and Saint when Shareen called me and asked if I could pick her up."
I gulped. I was just about to start the car but I stayed where I was, staring out the windshield and through the window of Joe's house as he made breakfast for his family, his wife walking in and kissing his cheek. Somewhere along the way I saw myself with Shareen instead of them.
"She sounded really upset and desperate, I'm pretty sure she was even crying. So I couldn't just tell her no or to call you, I thought that if she had called me it was for a reason, so I got in my car and drove to the address she sent me. When I got there she was a total mess, her make up was running and her hair was standing up everywhere.
"I drove her to her apartment and she told me what Chuck had told her and she was really upset about. I think you should hear about what happened directly from her, it's really none of my business. The important thing is that she asked me what to do about you. She said that she really cared about you and wanted the best for you and I could tell that she didn't think to be good enough for you. I gave her my point of view and then watched as she left to her apartment. I told her to call you but I'm figuring she never did for whatever reason."
"She didn't call." I muttered into the phone.
"I'm sorry, Pat." Pete said, his voice sounding sincere. "Don't think that I didn't tell you for any reason other than I didn't want to go behind Shareen's back, I like her a lot and she doesn't deserve that."
