They now sat on the hood of Patrick's truck, looking up at the dark night sky that littered with twinkling stars. The chilling breeze cooled down Lily's blazing cheeks. She was wrapped in a thick wool blanket that Patrick had given her . The temperature was chilly and all but Lily's face was nipped with coldness.
" What do you think the stars look like from up in space? Do you think they'll look the same or it would be different?" Lily asked out of nowhere , Patrick looked towards her and shrugged.
" Hell would i know. . . maybe there'll be more stars to see up in space, a lot more then we can see down here" Patrick said. He reached for his packet of cigarettes that was on the hood of the car. He placed a cigarette between his lips and pulled out his zippo lighter . The flame sparked , his gaze stuck on the small orange flame and it flickered and whipped with the light breeze. Flashes of the burning pit crossed his mind, fogging his eyes from the current reality. Thrilling chills ran up his spine and the fog started to disappear and he lit his cigarette.
Lily looked up at the dark night sky and sighed contently. She wished she could see the galaxy. Lily leaned back against the hood and gazed at the amazing white dots in the night sky. There was something about gazing at the stars that made peace and comfortability brim her body. Patrick laid down, joining Lily in her star gazing.
"Would you want to have sex with me?" Patrick asked out of nowhere . Lily looked away from the night sky and looked at him in surprise .
" I mean, yeah. You know . . . now. . . i don't think sex is a big deal. It seemed like a big deal becuase I felt like my virginity was the only thing i really OWNED. " Lily told, shifting her sight back to the night sky once again.
" Virginity was a concept created by men to add value to young girl's or women's bodies" Lily spoke confidently. Patrick furrowed his eyes and glanced at Lily
"Where'd you learn that?" he asked
" I joined a feminist club at my school. The club leader told me that" she explained
"What school do you go to? Cause i know you don't go to Derry High School, i would've noticed you if you were " Patrick asked, just know noticing that he'd never seen her in the halls or classrooms of the Derry Public High School
" Oh i go to some catholic school. My dad pays for it, so my mom doesn't really complain. " Lily told shrugging her shoulders
"You have a dad? i thought you only had a mom? " Patrick said confused
"i do, my mom and dad never really married, but they spilt up. We live with our mom but sometimes i wish i lived with my dad . He's way more fun and doesn't guilt trip you into greatness" she said. Patrick nodded understandingly .
A silence over came them, they were either stuck watching the unmoving stars or stuck in their thoughts. Or both
"What are you're parents like?" she asked Patrick. Patrick sighed and took a long inhale of his cigarette, getting the smoke burn his throat .
"My mom hasn't been the same since her baby died, sometimes she still thinks he's alive. My dad, well i couldn't say much about him. I barely see him when he's home. " Patrick said, not referring his dead baby brother as his brother; as if he didn't deserve the title . He didn't seem bothered by the fact his mother suffered trauma from her late sons death and the fact his father wasn't as social as he once was . A breath racked Lily's lungs and she slowly moved her head towards Patrick once again. He could sense that she was going to ' I'm sorry '
