I take in a gasping breath, bright lights over me with multiple voices around me. Only one voice stuck out over the rest, Kelly's. She was calling my name and I turn my head in her direction. I reach my hand out to her and she takes it. Her breaths start calming down as we held eye contact, her face stained with tears. "I almost lost you Jennifer," she chokes in a shaky whisper. She places my hand on her stomach and I could feel the twins kicking wildly. "They need you Jennifer, they only calm down for you."

The doctors and nurses around us kept quiet as she spoke with me. "Good call bringing her in Claire," one of the doctors say softly. "We almost lost her."

"Is she dead," I ask in a raspy whisper.

"Katie," Kelly asks in a choked whisper and I nod. "Yes and so is Kevin's brother."

I let out a relieved sigh and close my eyes. I let my thumb sweep at her stomach as the twins kicking calmed down. She lets out a relieved sigh and steps closer to me. I feel her run her hand in my hair and kiss my forehead.

"Damaged artery is repaired, let's get her closed up and in recovery while she's still stable," the doctor says in an authoritative tone.

I felt someone on my other side rub my thigh near my groin and I grab hold of their hand, glaring at the owner of the hand. It was one of the nurses and she tried to pull away from my grasp. "That is sexual assault and I'm a cop," I growl in a whisper.

"Get out Tracey," Kelly barks in anger, breaths stressed.

"Your babies need you calm," Claire says in a soothing tone and Kelly lets out a calming breath. "I'll make sure to take care of Jennifer while I'm here until she goes home."

"Thank you," Kelly chokes quietly.

Claire nods lightly and rubs her back in comfort. "When I'm finished in here, will you please take her for an ultrasound," I ask with concern about the twins.

"I don't want to leave you," Kelly chokes in broken sobs, shaking her head.

"I'll bring in a portable machine," Claire says in a soothing tone and Kelly lets out a relieved breath. "Get some rest Jennifer, I'll make sure Kelly stays calm."

"Thank you," I say quietly as I drift into sleep.

I woke in a recovery room with Kelly asleep on my chest. I notice Claire sitting in a chair, reading and she looks up at me. "How are you feeling," she asks quietly, coming over to check my bandages.

"How long have I been asleep," I ask in a groggy whisper.

"It's the next morning, just overnight," she says quietly, giving me a drink of water. "Kelly went to sleep around midnight. The twins are okay, they were calm when she went to sleep."

"Thank you for watching out for them. I feel better knowing you're here with her when she's working," I choke with relief as tears fill my eyes.

"Kelly is the sister I wish I had. I've always looked out for her. I haven't really had to since she met you though," she says with a light smile. "If it will put your mind at ease, I'll stay by her side and I know Joyce will match our schedules."

"Thank you. Has she asked you to be a bridesmaid?"

"We made a pact that we would be each other's bridesmaid at each other's wedding," she says with a smile.

Carrie walks in with my mother and Monica. My mother kisses my and Kelly's forehead and chokes with relief, "I'm glad you're okay. I could barely understand what Kelly was saying before Claire took her phone and explained what happened."
