By lunch time most of our wedding plans were set. I let Kelly pick the full menu for the reception and I picked most of the decorations. I asked to take a break when I looked down at Kelly asleep on my shoulder, hugged to my arm. I carry her up to our room and laid her in bed.
I head back down and look over what we've already decided. I added a few things to the food menu I thought children would eat. I also finished picking out decorations and flowers. All that was left was the cake and I wasn't going to do that without Kelly.
"Jen did all this," Kelly asks in a choked whisper as I was falling asleep at the table.
"Yes sweetheart, she's been in here all day," Valerie says quietly.
"All that's left is the cake and seating arrangements," Kelly chokes quietly as she runs her hand in my hair. "I can't believe how beautiful the reception hall will look. I don't understand how Jessica could let their guests disrespect her like that."
"Jennifer should have been a wedding planner, this setup is breathtaking," Angela says amazed. "She even drew up a kids menu."
I woke to a kiss on my forehead and it was Kelly. "Why don't you nap where you're comfortable," she says softly, brushing hair from my eyes.
I sit up in my chair and rub my eyes. "I was just resting my eyes," I say in a yawn.
"You were asleep," she says with a smile.
I look at the plans for our wedding and say softly, "I didn't want to do the cake without you. I thought maybe Monica could make us some samples of the cakes we were interested in and we could taste test for the one we want?""We can do that another day, go rest," Kelly says softly giving me a kiss.
I sigh in protest, but stand from my chair. I give a defeated smile and kiss her forehead. "Okay," I say quietly and she smiles. "I'll lay down for a little while."
"Thank you," she says quietly, gesturing to the wedding plans. Tears fill her eyes and chokes quietly, "Everything is beautiful Jennifer."
"Beautiful decorations for a beautiful woman," I say softly with a smile.
She comes in my arms as tears roll down her cheeks. "I'm going to miss you shadowing me. I almost don't want to go to work tomorrow," she chokes in a scared whisper.
"I already called and got you, me and Carrie a few days off," I say in a soothing tone and she lets out a calming breath. "I had a feeling you were going to need time before you went back to work without me."
"Can I lay with you," she asks in a choked whisper.
I take her hand and lead her up to bed. She lays on my chest and runs her finger over the scar and my stomach. I let out a relaxed breath and she kisses my cheek. She knows I haven't been able to sleep well if she's not laying next to me, especially after Jessica's fuck buddy let himself in with his own house key.
Carrie walks in as I was drifting into sleep. "The others left so the two of you could rest after planning your wedding all day," Carrie says quietly.
"Don't go," I say quietly as she turns to leave as I close my eyes.
I feel her climb in the bed next to me. "I'm here Jen," she says quietly, stroking my hair as I fell asleep.
Three days later...
Carrie and I just dropped off Kelly before we started our patrol. Neither of us wanted to leave her alone, but Daisy made us feel better when she growled at an angry patient who raised his hand at her. I gave him a warning glare and Kelly stopped me with her hand on my arm.
An hour into our shift Kelly called. Monica had to bring Grace to the hospital. She was running a high fever and Grace kept calling for me. Carrie called the captain and let him know I had a family emergency and would be at the hospital.
