"Quinnie, I've got you some Tylenol and water here on your nightstand, okay?" Sam spoke quietly. My eyes fluttered open to see his sparkling as the morning light filtered in. He looked almost angelic in the warm glow, especially with the way his eyes lit up and his lips curled into a crooked grin when he caught me staring. "Here, take this and go back to sleep," he instructed, holding out two pills in one hand and a glass of water in the other.
"Good morning to you too, Sammy," I teased as I sat up, wincing and clutching my head once the pain hit. I took the medicine and chugged the water before laying back down. "Thank you," I mumbled before falling back asleep.
After a while, I heard voices outside my door and strained to hear them. "She needed me.." Sam said defensively.
"We can't really have band practice without our bassist or keyboard player, Sam," that one sounded like Jake, but the annoyed tone confused me.
"You didn't decide it was band practice until I was already hanging out with Quinnie, and I wasn't going to just abandon her.." Sam replied sounding sad.
"Quinnie? It's not your job to take care of her. She could have called me, or even spent time with her dad.." Jake shot back and I could hear Sam shuffle uncomfortably in his spot.
"She didn't want to spend time with her dad after how he treated you...had you stayed and talked to her instead of running away anytime things get rough, you'd know that. She's in there sleeping off a hangover from hell but if you want to wake her up, so be it.." and with that I heard Sam slam his bedroom door as mine started to crack open.
"Good morning, love. How are you feeling?" Jake asked sweetly as he sat down beside me. I cuddled closer laying my head in his lap as he played with my hair.
"A lot better now," I giggled as my stomach growled. "I'm starving actually," I added as I sat up and threw my legs over the side of the bed. He leaned in to kiss me, but I stopped him. "I need to go brush my teeth first," I laughed more as I remembered how much I drank last night and how much fun I had with Sam.
As I brushed my teeth, I got lost in the memory of Sam taking care of me the night before, holding me, reassuring me as he coached me through my sickness, and how sweet he was when he put me to bed so innocently. I shook the thought from my head as I spit into the sink and returned my toothbrush to it's home in the little holder.
When I walked out of the bathroom, I heard movement in the kitchen. I walked in to see Jake laying out all the food he had brought. There was a stack of pancakes, a couple of waffles, some scrambled eggs, some sunny side up eggs, some sausage and bacon. "What's all this?" I giggled as I gestured to the spread.
"I wasn't sure what you'd be in the mood for.." he replied sheepishly before pulling out my seat and sitting a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee in front of me. I eagerly accepted the coffee as I picked at a piece of toast, still too nauseous for most of what he brought. I finally settled on a waffle and pulled it to my plate.
"Wow...what did you do, buy the whole menu?" Sam teased as he opened the fridge and pulled out a bowl of cut fruit. It looked amazing, and I was a sucker for fruit in the morning anyway.
"Shut up, Sam..I just didn't know what Quinnie would want to eat for breakfast," he teased back. Sam and I both winced at the sound of my nickname from Sam coming from Jake's mouth.
"Actually, can I have some of that? It smells so good.." I said softly as I stuck out my hand to keep Sam from walking back to his room with the whole bowl. He smirked down at me before dumping some onto my plate next to my waffle. "Thank you, Sammy," I whispered as I smiled back at him. I glanced over to see Jake glaring at him until he walked away.
