"Welcome." Imani's grandmother said with a kindhearted smile. Imani frowned and looked back at the elder who hadn't even spared her a single glance. What was this? Some type of sick joke?"Please, come inside." The woman insisted. Jungkook side eyed Imani who went to tremendous lengths to avoid his gaze. He rubbed his hands together as the door was closed behind him.
"You have a beautiful home, Miss James." Jungkook says.
"Thank you dear. I try to keep up with it as much as I can." She laughs. "Care for some breakfast?"
"I uh...actually would love some breakfast. Thank you." He said. Imani's grandmother waved him towards the kitchen and he followed behind.
What was all of this about? They were acting as if they knew each other for ages. As if Jungkook was an old family friend. It was sickening to Imani because nobody was saying anything. Surely they seen how confused she was with this newfound information.
Imani stood in the living room the entire time her grandmother fixed Jungkook's breakfast. When she was certain that he had been sat down with a meal, she took a few steps towards the kitchen.
"Um...grams? Can we talk for a second?" She asked. Her grandmother wiped her hands off on a towel before nodding. "Sure dear. Let's go." She said.
Imani poked the inside of her cheek with her tongue as she waited by the front door. Imani was sure that Jungkook might hear a few words out of their conversation, but not a lot.
"What's going on?" Her grandmother asked. Imani gestured towards the kitchen.
"That is what's going on. Grams! That's the same guy who held me hostage for two days in a lodge in the middle of the woods. And now you invited him into our home." Imani whispers.
"Imani don't be ridiculous. He saved you and he brought you back to me in nice shape. The least you can do is have some respect for him."
"I have respect." Imani argued. "How do you even know his name, grams? He's a stranger."
Her grandmother took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Imani did the same. This was a very stressful conversation, admittedly. But just imagine how Imani felt being in the dark.
"There are some things you don't understand-"
"Well help me understand." Imani pleads softly. "I'm sick of being left in the dark and disregarded. Certain things I don't know can't be helped unless you all tell me. It's like you want me to be clueless."
"You wouldn't understand Imani-"
"Ms.James." Imani looks around her grandmother to see Jungkook standing there. He was wiping his hands with a napkin and giving them a blank look.
"Yes?" Ms.James says, immediately snapping back into that kind facade for the stranger.
"I'm ready when you are. The food was amazing."
