Divorce.

Chloe Erlich's divorce to Ewan McGregor had perhaps been the messiest part of her life. She hadn't really wanted things to go down the way they had, as it had completely wrecked 2018 and most of 2019 for her.

For starters, her ex husband finding about 10 years worth of her correspondents with Damon Albarn, where they talked about how much they wanted to be around one another, reminisced their past fucks, and what not, was not how she wanted to approach the conversation of divorce. 

His response to start seeing his 10+ years younger costar was also not how she'd wanted things to go. But she couldn't really stop that. He deserved to have someone that really wanted to love him. And after finding out that his wife had basically been pining after someone for most of their marriage, she was all
for Ewan finding someone.

Chloe also did not know how to even begin to explain why they had decided on separating to their children.

May and Della were adults. Meaning that they'd probably be more upset with them. Althea, their youngest, would probably just cry a little bit.

Spoiler alert: none of their children were thrilled

Especially when May, took to Instagram, a platform neither of her parents cared enough to utilize, to comment on her father now seeing Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

That had caused a badger of bad media for Ewan.

And made him look especially bad after he'd just won a Golden Globe.

Chloe had offered to leak part of her affair after that. Ewan did not find the suggestion helpful.

But she did end up explaining it to their kids.

Which made the situation all the more messy.

See, explaining to your children (aged 23, 21 and 14) that the man who's albums are in your house, photos are in your mums studio, who's songs were your lullabies, the man who you kinda viewed as a family friend and have met and watched perform a million times, is the man your mother has technically cheated on your father with a dozen times, is insanely awkward.

Chloe and Ewan were pretty sure they had just caused dozens of trauma for their kids. Which is why they made their divorce as pain free as possible. Besides. There wasn't much for them to do anyways besides co-parent and figure out who wanted what property.

He didn't want her money, or rather, her inheritance from Maxis. And she didn't need his.

He got a new pad in LA and kept the home in Scotland. She kept their LA and London homes. Two of their kids had already flew the nest, now they just had their youngest to switch off.

Her family had been fine for the most of it. It took a few weeks and a therapist to help them all get through it, but none of their kids seemed to have any ill thoughts towards the scenario. And they seemed to all be moving forwards.

It was painless.

And it had allowed her time to do what she had wanted to do for years.

The two had officially started to see one another the proper way in mid 2019. It was very hush hush. Neither of them had wanted to cause any problems, seeing as the divorce had already caused her ex enough problems he didn't need. And besides, it was better this way.

The two were used to being private anyways. It had suited them then and seemed like it still did, all these years later.
