sam's pov

we were now sat around the thomas-brewer dining table, all talking while eating dinner. sharing how our days were and if there's anything new about school. i kept glancing over at charlie, only knowing that he's going to announce that i have a 'crush' growing on the new girl at school. well i don't know that exactly, but i know that he's going to bring her up one way or another

"sam how about you? how's it being back at school?" watson asked me

"not bad i guess"

"anything new, or exciting?" my mom carried on

"no, not really" at that charlie scoffed, drawing everyone's attention. including my glare

"sorry, just uh, just thinking about, oh er what's her name,sam? something like, kayligh? keeley? or was it kirsty?-" charlie smirked, seeing he had annoyed his little brother, until sam cut him off;

"cassidy! her name is cassidy" sam sighed, frustrated and annoyed

"oooo a girl!" kristy added

"who's cassidy?" liz joined in

"she's a new girl in my grade, we share a few classes together and she's in my home room" i said sighing

"she doesn't like him" charlie added on grinning like a loon

"actually she does thank you very much"

"really? how'd you know that?"

"cause we talked today and she apologised for how she talked yesterday" sam said proudly

"what is she like?" kristy asked and i saw a look in her eyes that i couldn't quite pick out

"um i don't really know, i mean she's in my music so she must do some sort of music, she skates. oh and she draws. uh she's from england i'm pretty sure, well she sounds like she is"

"he's also left out that she's really pretty" charlie added patting sam's shoulder

"i mean sure, i guess" sam said going back to his food

"well she sounds lovely. and talking of new people, there's a new family in primrose estate"

"i thought the milldrew's lived there?" watson questioned

"well apparently not anymore, i was thinking of bringing over some cookies i made earlier if any of you want to come"

"i'll come mom" kristy said putting down her knife and fork

"i'll come as well i guess" sam joined

cassidy's pov

i was sat in the 'kids' lounge, as if we're ever going to have kids over here, in one of the egg chairs on my phone, while my dad was sat at the dining table going over some of his work, when i heard the doorbell ring. i waited to hear if my dad would move but he never did.

"hun can you get that please" my dad called out to me and i got out of my seat, making my way to the door.

"yeah sure thing dad" i turn the set of keys that are sitting in the door and open the massive thing that is double my hight. standing there is a woman and what i assume are her two kids. but when i take a closer look, i see sam is one of the two kids.

"hi!" i say to them, "hi sam" i finish, smiling as i do so

"hi cass" sam said look a bit confused

"hi, i'm liz and this is my daughter kristy" liz said turning towards the girl beside her, "and well i'm guessing you already know sam" she smiled at me

"we go to the same school" sam said

"same grade" i continued

"and homeroom and a few classes" sam finished

"oh well that's nice!" liz pick up, " well we just wanted to come and welcome you and your family to the neighbourhood" she said smiling and passing over an old chocolate tin, "there are some cookies in there for you all"

"oh thank you, that's so nice of you! you really didn't have to though" i said with one the biggest genuine smiles i think i've had in a while

"oh it was a pleasure dear, it was lovely meeting you. hope to see you soon dear. have a good evening"

"oh you too! thank you again!" i smiled as they walked away. i stood at the door and watched as they left. waving and smiling even bigger at sam, who turned around and looked back at me. after they had left, i went back inside an placed the tin on the kitchen island.

"who was it hun?" dad asked walking into the kitchen

"some neighbours, one of them is in my year, nope! in my grade, that's it"

"that's nice. what's in the tin?"

"some cookies" i smiled

"well, shall we try them?"

"uh, yeah sure, lets go for it" i said swallowing down the lump in my throat, ignoring the growing pit in my stomach, and the sudden dryness of my mouth
