Your POV

"Jaykit, Lionkit, Hollykit, and K/n, you all have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior names, you all will be known as Jaypaw, Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Ap/n. Jaypaw, your mentor will be Brightheart. I hope Brightheart will pass down all she knows to you." Firestar spoke in the high sun's light, saying the words of an apprentice ceremony.

Jaypaw walked up to Brightheart and touched noses with her. Her not blind side shone with happiness at her first apprentice. Jaypaw's expression was angry and frustrated.

"Lionpaw,  your mentor will be Ashfur. I hope Ashfur will pass down all he knows to you." Firestar continued. Lionpaw raced up to his new mentor and bumped noses with him.

"Hollypaw, your mentor will be Brakenfur. I hope Brackenfur will pass down all he knows to you."

Hollypaw silently touched noses with Brakenfur, her eyes gleaming with the same excitement in Brakenfur's eyes.

"And finally, Ap/n. Your mentor will be Graystripe. I hope Graystripe will pass down all he knows to you."

You quivered in excitement when his nose touched my outstretched one.

"Jaypaw! Lionpaw! Hollypaw! Ap/n!" the Clan chanted a few times until Firestar jumped down the rock.

"I can't believe I got a half-blind cat as my mentor!" Jaypaw burst out after.

"I know. It isn't fair." you flicked your tail over his shoulder. "I wanna see the apprentice's den!" Lionpaw ran swiftly to the entrance.

The den had neat moss nests lined up. No cat was inside it since the other apprentices were out training.

"Who are we denmates with?" Hollypaw mewed.

"Um, Berrypaw, Hazelpaw, Mousepaw, Cinderpaw, Honeypaw, and Poppypaw." you scrunched up my eyes in concentration.

"That's a lot of apprentices!" Jaypaw said. He sounded annoyed.

"Relax, they won't bother you a lot I bet." Hollypaw rolled her eyes and added a sarcastic tone. Jaypaw just huffed angrily.

"Are you okay? You seem very tempered lately." you mew quietly to Jaypaw.

"I'm fine, ju-just a bit angry on how things are going." he said in his best calm voice. You didn't believe that.

"Lionpaw! Hollypaw! Why don't we show you guys the territory?" Brackenfur and Ashfur was padding towards them

"Oh sure!" Lionpaw leapt up.

"Why can't we go?" Jaypaw said, annoyed and jealous.

"Brightheart and Graystripe's on a patrol right now. Just stay in camp. Or better, stay in the den." Ashfur replied with a slightly annoyed tone. You lashed my tail angrily.

"We'll tell you what we see!" Hollypaw twitched her ears.

"Mhm." you groaned. You lay down in an unoccupied nest, your whiskers twitching slightly.

"Gosh, Ashfur is the worst." Jaypaw flopped down beside you. You felt my pelt heat up again when his tail curled around me. "He thinks he's deputy, bossily ordering cats around."

"I know right?" you mewed.

Jaypaw was silent for a moment. You guessed he was inwardly insulting everybody except you, Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Firestar.

You hesitated for a moment until you started to share tongues with Jaypaw. He didn't argue but purred quietly.  We stayed silent while you grazed my tongue over his bristling pelt, blushing a bit.

"Hi!" a loud voice said suddenly. You didn't jump in surprise.

"I'm Honeypaw." Honeypaw introduced herself. "Welcome to an apprentice's life."

Jaypaw grunted in reply. You nodded your head.

"I actually caught a hare! On ThunderClan territory!" Honeypaw boasted. And to your's and Jaypaw's annoyance, she sat down beside us and began ranting about herself. You stopped grooming Jaypaw to half-listen to her, wanting to respect the older apprentices. He looked disappointed that you stopped.

The sun started to set when all the apprentices came back and the den was full.

"It was magnificent! We got to see the Owl Tree, and smell the other Clans' scents!" Lionpaw sounded thrilled as he jumped up and down in the apprentices' den.

"I do that everyday." Berrypaw was eavesdropping.

"Mind your own business." you hissed. The glowing, dim light of the sun was flooding into the den, making your f/c pelt slightly shine.

The sliver of moonlight was on your face, illuminating your e/c eyes. Your sigh of boredom didn't wake any of the other apprentices up.

"Not tired?" Jaypaw's whispered voice suddenly said in your ear. You scrambled away and unsheathed your claws.

"What in the name of StarClan Jaypaw?" you whisper-yelled.

"Sorry. I couldn't sleep either." Jaypaw sat down and washed his ear.

"Yeah. I was thinking about the Gathering." you muttered.

"It would be nice to go. But I don't think we will; we're too inexperienced." Jaypaw mewed.

You stayed silent for a few moments, listening to the wind and Jaypaw's licking. The moon was nearly full, meaning that the Gathering would be very soon.

"I just- the warriors think I'm useless." Jaypaw said without warning again, making you jump.

"Okay." you flicked your tail tip.

"..." Jaypaw seemed hesitant to share.

"Come on, it's me Jaypaw. I'm a friend to trust, not a friend to fight." you said gently, nudging his shoulder, but wincing.

"Alright." Jaypaw looked ready to release the rage, anger, and frustration to me. You lay my head on my paws and twitched my ears.

"Everybody except some cats thinks I'm a helpless kit that was newborn because of my blindness. Even Lionpaw and Hollypaw sometimes, they're to protective." Jaypaw whispered to me. You nodded.

"But I'm not that, I can still fight, using scents and sounds. I can smell an infected wound a tail-length away."

"I know." You flattened your ears and unfolded them again.

"I can actually sense emotion too." Jaypaw finished washing and look at me with his pale blue eyes.

"Really?" you didn't know a cat was that powerful.

"Yeah. You're feeling shocked and surprised now." Jaypaw told me. "And, I don't know..."

"Oh um, okay." you felt your ears heat up again. "What else?"

Jaypaw seemed to notice the change of subject but didn't ask. "I can see another cat's dreams. Like, walk in them."

"Have you invaded my brain yet?" you said, feeling your tone laced with amusement and nervousness.

"No. I don't think you'd want that. Or any cat." Jaypaw flicked his ear in a sarcastic way.

"You're right." you shrugged, wincing from your shoulder.

"Haha. Of course I am." Jaypaw laughed sarcastically and stayed silent with his thoughts. You let him have a few minutes before speaking.

"Thanks for sharing with me. I'll get the other cats to think you're not purposeless." you licked his cheek.

"You're welcome. But we should get to sleep; we have training tomorrow and the moon is high." Jaypaw mewed. We both quietly slipped into our nests and fell asleep.
