~Dream~

You were shooting through the trees, the forest around you blurring. You realised that you were gliding above the ground to the no-territory hills.

You stopped in front of some huge cat. The tom-cat was mottled with orange and black. Pale yellow eyes shone in the sunlight.

The strange cat didn't seem to notice you, but you were dreaming so that's what you would expect. His head swivelled to the forest and back at the Moonpool cave. A darkness fell.

You tried to open your jaws to talk, but they wouldn't open.

A strange ripple caused your dream to shift, like a ripple in the water. You were now standing in a clearing of snow, a waterfall making tremendous noise behind you.

"This time of frozen water is harder than last time." a dark brown tabby with a scar said.

"I'll go hunting. You can come with me, Talon." a gray-silver tom replied. You watched his yellow eyes stare into a spot behind you.

With a jolt, you recognised the yellow eyes. It was the eyes of your mentor, Graystripe. This gray tom was Stormfur, one of Graystripe's kits.

"The waterfall never freezes." Stormfur turned away.

"It might never." Talon padded away too.

You followed them, gliding dream-like in your, well, dream.

"I fear that the Tribe of Endless Hunting cannot help." a brown, old cat with ruffled fur met Stormfur and Talon.

"The rogues will take more prey until we starve to death." Talon mewed.

"Stoneteller, we just spotted more rogues again." another cave-guard ran forward.

"Get another few cave-guards to fight then, Crag." Stoneteller nodded.

You froze when Stoneteller stared at you, directly in your e/c eyes. He blinked slowly, and you lost sight of the Tribe cats.

~End of dream~

"WAKE UP!" a paw was vigorously shaking your shoulder.

You sat up with speed. "Calm down Poppypaw!"

"You've slept past dawn." Poppypaw looked at you seriously.

"Sorry." you muttered.

Poppypaw left. You groomed yourself until your fur lay flat. Your paws nearly slipped on frost when you walked out.

A small coat of frost was laid on camp. A few paw steps were marked into the ground from the thin layer of cold. You shivered, watching your puff of breath fade as you exhaled.

"Finally." Graystripe ran up to you. "Hunting patrol."

"Sure." you would make it up for sleeping in by hunting. Sounds fUn.

You saw Graystripe talk to Ashfur and Lionpaw to get on the patrol. Lionpaw dropped his attack crouch.

"Oh hey Ap/n." Lionpaw fell in pawstep with you. You responded with a yawn.

"Come on, you two." Ashfur was already ahead. You picked up your pace.

"How's prophecy stuff?" you murmured to Lionpaw.

"Hollypaw's frustrated with her power. She can't get it to work, whatever it is." Lionpaw mewed quietly.

You glanced at Ashfur. "I hope your power isn't too obvious."

"Yeah. Being undefeatable in battle is kind of noticeable."

You felt a branch wipe your ears with frozen leaves as you walked past.

"I think we could hunt here." Ashfur stopped.

You sniffed the air. The crusty cold stung. No sign of prey.

"There must be some prey." Lionpaw disappeared by a ditch.

You poked your muzzle in a hold under a frost-bitten tree.

A small furry creature ran out at light speed. Ashfur gave a yelp of surprise as the wood mouse shot by.

You leapt for the piece of prey. The mouse was running slower than usual, being careful not to slip.

Lionpaw, on the other paw, ran for it at full speed, slipped, and crashed into a tree.

You slammed a paw down on the mouse quickly., breaking its neck.

"Nice catch. And the mouse isn't scrawny." Ashfur prodded the limp morsel.

"Lionpaw, you are a mousebrain." you said to Lionpaw.

"I am." Lionpaw shook his head.

"I expected better. Next piece of prey is yours, Lionpaw." Ashfur grunted and turned away.

"I'll bring this back to camp before it freezes." you picked up the mouse in your jaws and left the mentor and apprentice.

It was a silent journey. You glanced at the sky, waiting for the snow.

You thought about your dream. You heard about the Tribe of Rushing Water. Why would StarClan send you dreams about them? And who was that weird tom outside of the Clan borders?

You suddenly felt pain in your muzzle. You had walked into a tree.

"That was one of the most flea-brained things I've ever seen."

You turned around and spotted a RiverClan cat.

"Hi Mistyfoot." you said.

"Don't worry, you're not on our side of the border." Mistyfoot purred. "Why did you just walk into a tree?"

"Sorry. I was just thinking." you muttered, embarrassed.

"I think ThunderClan are straight-up evil cats." Mistyfoot sat down and groomed herself. You noticed the glint of her unsheathed claws in the leaf-bare sun.

"We're cats like you. Just tied to different rules and territory." you pointed out.

"Smart. Clever. You should be named Foxpaw instead." Mistyfoot replied.

"Bye." you left without another word.

Great StarClan, Mistyfoot is sour today.

It took a few minutes to get back to camp. Your paws were numb.

"Ap/n, you took quite a while!" Ashfur met you at the camp entrance.

"Had a run in with RiverClan." you said, flinging the mouse in the fresh-kill pile.

"I hope you didn't cause a fight." Ashfur left. Great convo!

The sun shone high in the sky, right above your head. You curled your tail at the shadow of a huge hawk hunting down a squirrel.

You haven't seen Jaypaw yet. Not since yesterday. Not since he was a daft furball.

"Ap/n, if you have nothing to do, can you get some water-logged moss for Mousefur? She's still very ill and refuses to eat." Leafpool passed you, her pelt ruffled.

"Sure." you snatched some moss off an old pine tree and left for the creek.

(Timeskip)

"I'll have some." Mousefur said hoarsely as you dropped the soaked moss.

"Get well." you disappeared before the stench of sickness overpowered.

"WHOO we had a lot of chores." Hollypaw said as you ducked into the apprentices' den.

"Let's get some prey."

As if on cue, Lionpaw came in with a chaffinch in his mouth.

"Oh thanks Lionpaw!" Hollypaw said. Lionpaw paused and shrugged.

You sat down and ate the bird. Then you curled up in your nest with your tail trailing out and fell asleep.
