"... twist their necks before they know it."

You weren't listening to your Dark Forest mentor. That was dangerous, but you didn't care. You'd rather have boring dreams of StarClan than sit here and listen.

"Ap/n!" Mapleshade snarled. A sharp pain came to your cheek. You flinched and brought a paw to your cheek, smelling blood.

"You aren't listening. If you did, then use the method to bring me down. Hurry up!" Mapleshade barked. You shook your head to stop the stinging on your face and crouched down.

You didn't know what she meant, so you decided to improvise. You leapt to the ground beside her and slashed at her pelt before doing a flip to land on her back, the momentum bringing her down. You grabbed her muzzle to snap her neck like she said, but didn't.

"Ugh." Mapleshade rolled over to throw you off. "You need more strength, especially if you're tackling a bigger cat. And you have to speed up way more when you change tactics. I get stuck with the weakest cat in the whole Dark Forest." She grumbled, unsheathing her claws.

You sighed. You shook your head to get rid of the nasty leaves that were stuck on your ears.

"That was... impressive." Tigerstar's voice said from behind you. You flinched and brought up an unsheathed paw.

"I didn't see you Tigerstar." Mapleshade said, the annoyed look still on her face.

"Listen to your mentor." Tigerstar said to you. You felt the need to groan but didn't dare.

"I've been here for a long time, we all have." you said crossly, feeling tired and sore.

"We will send you back when we're done training." Tigerstar growled.

"Again, do the same thing." Mapleshade ordered. You sighed, scratching the dirt in frustration. All this training was not for our personal gain, but obviously for something much more important. Tigerstar's gonna use us for something, and you knew it.

"Hey." Tigerstar shoved your head, making you tumble into the slightly deep stream.

"PPH." you spat out water as you rose up to the surface. You were a small apprentice, so it was hard to reach the bottom.

"Don't drift. Stay focused." Tigerstar said. He left. You climbed out of the water and shook the water off your pelt. Mapleshade hissed at you to hurry up.

You shivered and made sure no dust or dirt got onto your wet pelt. You leapt at Mapleshade again, but she jumped aside and jabbed your neck with a claw, making you cough unwillingly. She pushed you over harshly. You fell on your side and slid two tail-lengths, a dark dust cloud forming.

You coughed again, a little blood splattering on the floor.

"You're too predictable." Mapleshade snarled, grabbing you up by your scruff. You shook yourself off again, feeling cold and dirty now.

You rubbed your sore throat, glaring at your mentor.

"I don't-"

You felt a jolt of surprise as if your heart jumped to your throat. You leapt up form your nest and widened your eyes in shock, confused whether this was the Place Of No Stars or StarClan.

"Ap/n." your mentor was shaking you awake. Your body still felt like it was in the Dark Forest.

"O-oh Graystripe." you sighed and shook your head to clear your confusion.

"I've decided to give you your assessment today." Graystripe said.

"Assessment for what- oh!" your eyes widened again. If you passed, you would finally become a warrior!

"First, Firestar said he won't give you a punishment, but you won't go to the next Gathering. Even if you become a warrior." Graystripe mewed. You followed him out of the den. The sun was almost done rising.

The next Gathering was in two sunrises, according to the moon last night.

"That's fair." you said, a little disappointed.

"Your assessment is to catch as many different pieces of prey as you can and redo the border near RiverClan before sunhigh." Graystripe said.

"Who else is taking the assessment?" you asked.

"Just you. I think you're ready." Graystripe said. You felt a sense of pride in your chest. But another part was guilty because you weren't taking the assessment with your friends.

"When shall I go?" you mewed, sitting down and looking into the forest. It was a nice, sunny day for hunting, perfect for your assessment.

"Eat some prey then leave." Graystripe said. "Don't worry about me."

You nodded and padded to the prey pile.

"AP/N!" Hollypaw's voice yelled, hurting your ears. You looked at her, tilting your head.

"What?"

"Wanna eat with me?" Hollypaw said. Lionpaw nudged her. "And Lionpaw?"

"No, I have to eat quick. Sorry." you said, grabbing a f/p and sitting beside them.

"Why?" Lionpaw cocked his head, a curious look in his eyes.

"I'm taking my warrior assessment."

"What?!!!" Hollypaw gasped and pushed you. Seriously, what's with other cats pushing you around?

"Graystripe said he thinks I'm ready." you said, taking small, quick bites out of your food.

"You're so lucky." Lionpaw sighed, lashing his tail.

"Don't worry, you guys will get your warrior names soon." you assured them. You finished your last bite and stood up. "I'll be back at sunhigh."

"Good luck." Hollypaw said. Lionpaw stood up and left.

You bounded into the forest, letting the shade consume your body.

You desperately wished that Tigerstar or Mapleshade will be angry at you. You couldn't help but wake up. You had to focus on hunting right now, and worry about the Place Of No Stars later.
