There now, steady love, so few come and don't go, will you won't you, be the one I always knowAlexa couldn't help but dig herself deeper into the cake bartering bowl, the articles that were flying around messing with her head, ringing around like a song lyric you just couldn't get out of your head, or even as if it was taunting her, reminding her of someone she could never be.
Growing up with your brother in the spotlight, being the golden child no matter how many times they did something wrong was hard, but being compared to your golden sibling was even harder, it didn't matter if you stopped world hunger, it wouldn't ever be enough.
So now to be taunted with Jacks beautiful ex-girlfriend, a stunning model, with or without make up, just didn't seem to make her feel any better about herself, not that she always felt good about herself anyway, and she would always have growing up in the path of a footballer to thank for that.
When I'm losing my control, the city spins around, youre the only one who knows, you slow it down
Alexa hummed along to the song that was playing from her playlist, trying to pull herself from her thoughts that span around her head, trying to calm herself down, by making what felt like hundreds of cakes and pastries, and she didn't necessarily need to do them right this moment, but she needed it to stop, she needed everything to stop for just a moment.
But when her phone stopped playing her playlist, and began to ring out with the liquidator playing through her speakers, she knew she couldn't dodge her phone much longer.
Alexa cleaned her hands quickly, rubbing them across her face as she looked down and saw Bens name flashing across on her phone, and maybe it was a name she could get away with ignoring for an hour, but she knew better than that.
"Little Mount" Bens voice rang through her ears, as she smiled to herself briefly. "Mr Chilwell, to what do I owe this pleasure?" Alexa smiled, and it wasn't a fake smile, it wasn't even forced, and for a moment it was there on her face, even if it did disappear just after.
"We missed you at the game today" Ben spoke, as Alexa let out a little sigh, it wouldn't of been noticeable, if Ben wasn't so observant.
"Yeah, I got caught up in the bakery" Alexa lied, she didn't, she hadn't even been in the bakery long, but she didn't want to be seen out of the walls of her safe haven, she didn't want to leave, not now, not ever; and that was the first stage, this was always how her down-spiral started.
"We assumed you would, specially after your honeymoon at the zoo" Ben chuckled, and Alexa couldn't help but stand still, the memories of the previous day flashing across her mind, smiling at the thoughts, before the article come back to play on her mind, taunting her once again.
"Are you okay?" Bens voice whispered, and Alexa knew he knew about the article, it didn't take an idiot to put two and two together. Ben knew her better than that, although they may have briefly had a fling, or a friends with benefits type of relationship, she knew he knew her, and deep down, it made her feel wanted, it made her feel accepted, that despite everything, he was still there, he always would be.
"How about you come see us tomorrow? We haven't got a game this week, and maybe it'll make you feel a little better, I'm sure Alex would love to see you" Ben stated, and Alexa could hear the smile in her voice, and even though she didn't want the attention of the papers, or to be in the spotlight a minute longer than she had been already, something inside her told her that she needed this, she needed to stop the down spiral herself and take action.
"Okay" Alexa stated, her voice was monotone, no smile, no cheeriness, but Ben knew that she meant what she had said, that she would come, she never let him down, she didn't before, and she wouldn't now.
"I'll see you tomorrow then Lex" Ben stated, and before she knew it, the line was dead and the song from before was playing around the bakery again, the water from the rain hitting hard at the glass windows as she listened to the lyrics intently.
It's always have and never hold, you've begun to feel like home..
But what stopped Alexa in her tracks wasn't the sudden burst of music around her, it wasn't the rain hammering down at the windows, somewhat comforting her in its own way.
It was the male who was stood with his coat clinging to his body, his lips pursed into a line, no cheeky grin or million dollar smile that was usually plastered on his face.
It was the way his hair looked perfect, even though it was dripping with rain and still slicked back, untouched. It was the way his brown orbs were placed on her, and only her, like it didn't matter if there was a million other people in that room, his eyes would still be following her.
"So ya can't ring me but ya know how to use a phone" Jack mumbled, as he lifted his arm up above his head and ran his fingers through his hair, Alexa watching as the rain dropped from him with every movement he made.
"Jack?" Alexa questioned, as he shook his head.
"Do ya hate me?" Jack questioned, and it threw Alexa off guard, her eyes closing momentarily, as she then looked across as him again, looking over his face and realising he was actually here, he was really stood in front of her asking that question."Why would I hate you?" Alexa questioned, as she picked up the icing tin, and began walking over to him, but he shook his head.
"I cheated Lex" Jack stated, as the rain hammered down at the window harder, almost like a scene from a movie.
"That day at the press conference, Kiera invited Sash, and ya couldn't come, I was annoyed, I felt lonely, and she was there" Jack muttered, as Alexa watched his eyes, everything he was saying was going in one ear and out of the other, this didn't make sense to her, even if the words did hit her at full force.
"You cheated on me?" Alexa whispered, as Jacks face softened. "With her?" Alexa continued, as she felt the tin fall from her fingertips, the sound of it hitting the ground echoing around the room, as Jack flinched at the sudden sound. But he didn't say a word. He stood there expecting the slaps across his chest, expecting the sound of Alexa crying or screaming, he prepared himself for anything but her standing there still, like he hasn't even said the words he did.
"Get out" Alexa muttered, her voice calm, her body posture calm, but her heart was racing, her hands felt like they were shaking, but she never showed it.
And Jack followed her words, he left her, standing alone in the bakery, the words he had spoken spinning around in her head, and just as before, before the phone call, or Jack turning up, she was left alone with her thoughts, her own mind taunting her and making her feel as small as an ant.
