Chapter 24 - It's time.

1 week later

"It's happening!! Everybody move!!" Stormfly screeched as she soared through the sky in panic. Luna had finally gone into labour and as one of the nurses, it was Stormfly's duty to be there for Luna's support and make sure nothing went wrong.
    Toothless was panicking, doing his best to soothe his mate while Stormfly was on her way to their den. Luna laid there whining and whimpering in pain.
    "Hey hey it's okay, it's going to be okay— I promise, Stormfly is on her way." Toothless reassured his mate the best he could, glancing to the entrance as Stormfly landed and rushed in.
    "I'm here! I'm here it's okay now, it's going to be okay. Toothless, do you mind?" Stormfly whispered gently to the King who nodded and gave Luna a nuzzle before he was sent outside so he wasn't a distraction to the delivery.

He didn't want to be outside, he wanted to be there for Luna and make sure she was okay, but he understood it would be overwhelming and he would only be a distraction, so just like the many dragons who sat patiently on the floor below the den in the wall, he paced back and forth outside, worriedly.
    "Is she okay? Nothing has gone wrong, right?" Astra panicked as he landed next to Toothless.
    "No no, she's in good paws. Stormfly is one of the nurses here and assists some deliveries, she's with Luna now." Toothless reassured her brother. "She's going to be okay."
    Astra relaxed a little at his comforting words and watched how he was pacing anxiously. "Hey, it's gonna be okay. Being a first time dad is scary and it will be tough, but you are gonna be great. Both of you are." Astra returned the kind words and placed his tail on Toothless' shoulder, which made him smile.

From the skies, Cloudjumper landed when he saw an anxious Toothless pacing from the air. "Hey, how are you holding up, bud?"
    "I'm doing decently. Just wish I could be in there to comfort her." Toothless sighed to himself. Cloudjumper chuckled.
    "Hey, Luna is in good paws. There is nothing to fret while she's with Stormfly, okay?" Cloudjumper reassured his friend. "I understand from the perspective of a father, that you want to be there desperately for your mate, but these are some sacrifices you have to make to ensure a healthy and stress-free delivery." Cloudjumper lowered his head so he was a little closer to Toothless. "I assure you, your highness, that Luna will be okay."

Toothless took a steady deep breath in, relaxed at his friends' kind words that somewhat reassured him that everything would be okay. "You're right, she's going to be okay, and so will our eggs." Toothless repeated to himself while he sat down now, eyes shut as he focused on keeping himself calm.

2 hours later.

It was a rough few hours of waiting, Toothless was becoming anxious and impatient to see Luna and ensure she and their eggs were okay.
    Finally, Stormfly came down to Toothless with a smile on her face. "Luna wants to see you now. I assure you, she and the eggs are in perfect condition."

Toothless in an instant gave Stormfly a grateful nuzzle before he rushed up into the den, landing on the perch and took a deep breath.
    As he walked in, it smelt completely different than it did before. Peeking inside, he saw Luna laying there exhausted, and under her wing was three beautiful eggs buried warmly and safely in the nest. Luna sensed a presence and growled loudly as she raised her head, but relaxed when she saw it was Toothless.
    "Come and see them..." Luna whispered eagerly to her mate who padded inside and came next to her, lowering his head curiously as she raised her wing to reveal the three eggs buried safely. Immediately, Toothless' pupils enlarged at the sight of the eggs and sniffed them curiously, and began to purr.
    One egg was pure black, the biggest was snow white, and the last one, the smallest, was a mix of black and white together.
    "Which egg came first?" Toothless asked.
    "This one." Luna nuzzled the smallest one, the black and white egg. Toothless was a little surprised however he was far from disappointed, instead he smiled and gave it a little lick, before curling around Luna and placing his wing over her and the eggs. "Our family... I'm very happy, Luna, to be here with you and them."
    "I'm happy too. We're finally parents." She chuckled and laid her head down, exhausted. Toothless groomed the top of her head to soothe her to sleep, letting her drift off while he kept watch for a little while.
