A few days later I told Chris I had some work I needed to get done and would be spending the day apart from him. I hated lying to him but I couldn't do what I needed to do with him. I parked my car in the driveway and knocked on the door and waited. She opened the door semi shocked to see me.
"Viv? Come in." She said and I walked in with a small smile.
"Chris doesn't know I'm here." I said as she shut the door and we walked into her living room and sat down.
"I figured." Lisa said and I sighed.
"I want to get everything between you and I out in the open." I said and Lisa sighed.
"Chris and I have gone semipublic and I since we are going to start being seen together we need to work out any differences or issues you and I have." I said and Lisa nodded.
"I think that's a great idea. Why don't I make us some tea and we talk?" Lisa asked and I nodded as we headed into her kitchen. Once the tea was made we sat at her kitchen table.
"I don't know if you want me to start or if you want to start but I would like this conversation to be as calm as possible." I said and Lisa nodded.
"That's all I want too. I just would like to voice my concerns of you and Chris." Lisa said.
"Then you should start." I said and she nodded."Let me start off by saying you and Chris as adorable together and I haven't seen him this happy in a long time." Lisa said and I smiled.
"But you aren't here long." Lisa continued.
"My time here shouldn't matter." I said and she sighed.
"But it does Viv. You are here for 6 months and if your job calls you back, you go back to New York like it's no big deal yet he is here to pick up the pieces of his heart." Lisa said.
"If you think I would just break his heart and leave if I go back to New York then you really don't have much faith in someone who is dating your son." I said.
"I have seen it happen before with him." Lisa said.
"So every woman is the same?!" I asked shocked and then took a deep breath to calm down.
"You and Chris have had a whirlwind romance recently. You met and now you are already meeting the family. Everything is going fast with the two of you. I love my kids and I hate seeing any of them getting hurt. I protect my family fiercely." Lisa and I smiled.
"I am thankful you do. I don't have anyone in my life to do that for me and I'm glad that they do." I said and Lisa looked at me oddly.
"My parents and grandma have passed away all in the same year. I have no one and was thankful when I found Chris but he wasn't someone to replace the hole I have of people missing in my life. He was someone who could give me new hope in life and love. I knew who he was the minute I met him but I didn't let that effect my decision in being with him in any way. Chris is special to me." I said and Lisa sighed.
"Sweetie, I'm sorry to hear about your family. May I ask how?" Lisa asked and I took a deep breath to hold back some tears that I knew would want to escape.
"My dad was working construction and had a major heart attack and died instantly. 5 months later my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and died only 2 months after being diagnosed and then while that was happening my grandma got pneumonia and ended up in the hospital and died 3 weeks after my mom." I explained and Lisa just sat in shock. I realized besides who I used to work with Lisa was the first person I had told since it happened. She grabbed a hand of mine that was holding my cup on the table and I smiled.
