-Joe-
It was May Day and so the kids were all off school. I decided to take them out for the day, just to Brighton beach as we hadn't done that in a while and it was a beautiful, sunny day. It was going to be lonely without Elena, but we needed some family time. Gracie helped get Chrissy ready as I did with Sam. On the 27th April, Gracie turned nine. She was growing up so fast. I tried to make her birthday as happy as I could, but it was difficult, she understood that. After an hour she arrived in the room with Chrissy. I beamed at them. Gracie was wearing a white lacy dress that Elena had bought her last Christmas and she managed to curl her hair. Chrissy was in her Anna from Frozen costume and Gracie put her hair in plaits. Sam was all Batman themed today. As soon as we had breakfast, we left for the beach.
We firstly went to the pebble beach and I watched the kids as they sprinted into the sea. I sat down and unlocked my phone and took photos of them. Seeing them so happy, you'd never think that they were so broken inside. I then took them all on the Brighton wheel, bought them all ice-creams and returned to the beach, where funny enough, we bumped into Zoë, Alfie and their adorable pug Nala. "UNCLE ALFIEEEEEEEEE!!" Sam screamed at the top of his lungs before sprinting into his arms. "AUNTY ZOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" Chrissy shouted, doing the same and sprinting into her arms. Gracie walked up and hugged them both happily. "I love your hair today sweetheart." Zoë complimented Gracie. She smiled at her and hugged her again. Alfie was playing tig with the kids as the sun began to set over Brighton Pier when I got a phone call. "Mr Sugg? Hi, it's Dr Lance from your wife's ward. I'm afraid your wife has fallen very ill, would you be able to come to the hospital as soon as possible so I could explain everything in more detail?" The doctor said on the other end of the phone. I started to panic. I said I would before hanging up. "Zoë, please can you look after the kids, I'm needed at the hospital, Elena's really ill." I told her sadly. She agreed and sent Alfie to go with me.
Alfie and I rushed to the wall. Dr Lance was waiting for us and escorted us to his office. He offered us a drink of water, which we both declined, before telling us to sit down. "So, what's wrong with her?" I insisted. "Your wife has developed an every day kidney infection but because of her state and her immune system being so weak, it has made her really ill. She would be in a lot of pain no doubt." He informed us. I cringed. "So, what happens now? Can you make my sister better?" Alfie wondered as I struggled to speak. "She will need a kidney transplant to prevent her own from shutting down." He explained. "Is she fit enough to withstand surgery?" I questioned with great concern. Dr Lance nodded. "We believe so yes. Although she has a weak immune system, her wounds heal quite fast." He stated. "Where will the kidney be coming from?" Alfie inquired. I wanted to ask the exact question but he beat me to it. "We will test you and other volunteers you know to see if your matches, if it's unsuccessful, we will get a normal donor which unfortunately, takes longer." He answered. We nodded. We signed a piece of paper to say that we would get tested before thanking him and leaving, feeling quite negative. Who else was willing to give up a kidney?
