They made their way to the large dining room where the dinner was to be held, with Maria's guidance of course.

When they got into the room, it was already bustling with laughter and chatter. The room had dozens of round tables filled with dozens of people. She noticed that there was a lone table that was placed above everyone elses. She wondered if the King would be joining them.

Finding a spot to sit, Sofia and River make their way to the table and took their seats.

Right away, like the social butterfly she was River joins the conversation with the other girls while Sofia looks around in a daze.

The room was beautiful, the roof had paintings of different times in history that seeped though the walls. She wanted to touch the paintings and hope to feel it's texture, it's history.

River knew her all too well, she knew how Sofia always listened to what she felt and it was not always logical so with that she gripped Sofias hand snapping her out of her artistic daze.

River continued to talk to her new found friends while Sofia just sat there studying her surroundings. She heard a tiny squeak from her pocket and her eyes lightened up after realising that she to can converse with her friend.

"Good Evening Cookie, I hope you had a lovely nap. I didn't  after that monster almost ate you" her sigh exaggerated.

"Speaking about eating, it's dinner time and we're about to eat. I think we're waiting for the King to arrive" whispered Sofia as she gazes at the rabbit on her lap. She didn't want anyone to see him as they both would get in trouble.

"I hope you're hungry, I know I am. I hope there is desert. Maybe Chocolate cake!"

"What do you like cookie? You probably like cookies" she giggles to herself. Looking up she caught the eye of a girl who just stared at her weirdly but Sofia smiled at her and waved her hand in greeting.

The girl just shook her head and looked away, making Sofia frown.

"Maybe she doesn't like me cookie but that's okay, not everyone will like you in the world." The rabbit as if understanding what she had just said squeaked to what seemed like approval to Sofia.

Before she could continue her conversation with cookie, a voice boomed. "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to your first social event. This is your opportunity to mingle and hopefully find you mate!" The woman from earlier speaks. Mrs Orah was her name.

"But before we start, the king" and with that statement the room went quiet and the doors creaked open.

Sofia was just as intrigued as everyone in the room. Maybe even more.

The figure in dark clothes and a gold crown on his head makes his way into the room. His presents was dark and dangerous. He was deffinatly someone you would not mess with.

Suddenly the whole room got to their knees and bowed, Sofia was left standing confused as to why such a dramatic move was to be done. No one gave her the memo.

River grabs her hand and drags her down not noticing the rabbit on her lap. Once the rabbit got to the ground it made a dash towards the dark figure.

Sofia gasps, "Cookie!" She calls out to the rabbit. She had forgotten about everyone else, she stood up and chased after Cookie. Everyone turned their eyes towards her and watched her...including the King.

Cookie was at the feet of the Dark figure who so happens to be the King. The king picked up the small rabbit and looked at the frantic girl who looked shocked but mostly worried about the rabbit. She avoided the gaze, the hard gaze of the King.

"Look at me" he demanded. His voice sending familiar shivers down her body, she forced herself to look at him pushing the fear away for now.

When her gaze met His, she couldn't help but stare, his eyes were a unique shade of blue. It was dark, almost black but something about them made them unique.

She could feel her heart beating fast and her body shaking with anticipation, of What? She wasn't sure.

"Why do you protect such a pathetic creature. How can food hold such sentimental value to you." He was generally curious, pushing away the emotions that almost leaked out of his heart after gazing at the girl he asked.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry king sir. Cookie didn't mean to dash away like that I promise he'll behave." She rushes, wincing and flinching in fear.

"You didn't answer my question."

"He doesn't have family like me so I wanted to be his family. I'm sorry" she could feel her tears bursting out and so she began to sob.

The people who were still bowed couldn't help but feel sorry for the girl. Her innocence was no match for the kings darkness. "Pathetic." He scoffed. She was pathetic and naive. Stupid even.

And just for that he would punish her. "Guards! Take this to the kitchen and tell the chef to prepare a soup with it and make her eat it."

"What! No, no, no, no please king sir, please. He's just a little baby. Please don't do this king sir please" she cried. She couldn't let cookie die much less be eaten, by her.

He watched as she pleaded with him for the life of a rabbit. The sane emotion that hit him earlier when he scared her to tears came back. It couldn't be guilt he denied.

It just couldn't. He ushered the guard and gave him the rabbit. He whispered something into the guards ear and with a nod he leaves.

To the kitchen, Sofia thought.

Sofia continued to cry on the ground but the King paid no means to her and made his was to his table that was placed above everyone else's.

Once the King sat down everyone else did, River picked Sofias trembling form from the ground and lead her to the nearest bathroom.

"He killed him River." She sobs her pain bringing pain to everyone near her.

River gives her a hug then helps her clean up. "Let's go back and eat, I heard they have desert." River tries to cheer her up as she knew little Sofia had a sweet tooth.

Her gloomy mood slightly lifted at the mention of dessert so with that they made their way back to the dining room.
