AyaIf there's one thing I love more than taking a shower, then it's definitely dressing up for an event, especially one that is in honor of someone I love very much.
Hafsa's wedding Fatiha was just 2 days away, so the events had already started and that very day was the day of the kamu, which just means 'catching' of the bride. It's an event where the groom's side of the family come with the hopes of unveiling their-soon to be-new sister and daughter, but they're stopped by the bride's friends until they pay a certain amount of money.
The kamu is no doubt my favorite event, because a lot of money is Always involved. Some people actually just come to show off and try to take all the attention with their unnecessarily heavy Gold necklaces and fat bundles of either 200 or 500 Naira notes, so it's quite comical and entertaining, but Thee best part entirely is The rich display of culture and beauty of northern Nigeria. I loved the fact that the traditions our forefathers created were not forgotten, though as time goes by, a bit of modernization is slowly getting incorporated into them, but the foundation still remains the same.
"....I just need to pull it one last time," Said Nengi, referring to the Zipper on my Red and ash Ankara that was sewn into a fine fitted gown "suck your breath in"
I did as she said, and by God's unfailing Grace, we got that stubborn dress zipped. You just know that we both suffered because the moment we achieved that, we let out a sigh at the same time. I'd like to say it's because the zipper was faulty, but in all honesty, it's just that the dress was too tight, as if it was sewn right on my body.
"How do I look?" I turned around with a smile on my face as I waited for approval from my biggest critic. That's actually one thing I love about Nengi, when she doesn't like something about someone's appearance be it hair, makeup, outfit, shoes, you name it, she always tells that person the truth, and not in a rude way, she's usually very sweet with it.
"Like the assistant bride" she responded, to which I chuckled "but Mrs, Are you sure you're breathing fine?"
Instead of responding, I took a deep breath and let it out, giving her the assurance she needed to be convinced. It felt fine at that moment, but I knew not to eat anything later because then breathing would be out of the picture.
I posed in front of my ring-light and Nengi clicked some of the finest pictures on my iPhone 13 pro max so I could post on my Instagram, not only because I looked extraordinarily good, but for business related purposes as my full makeup was done with Oriflame products, so I was to post, tag them, and emphasize on just how flawless their cosmetics makes someone look, which actually is not a lie.
After the photoshoot session, which I was so impressed with that I had give Nengi a token, I picked my Red veil from the bed and finally left the room so I could go to the penthouse and say bye to Hafeez before leaving.
I found him in him in his room, shirtless and on the bed, playing a football game on his pS5, but he noticed my presence the moment I pushed the door open, and he paused the match, giving me his full attention.
"I'm leaving Bestie" I told him "InshaAllah I'll be home by 7. Bye"
"No wait!" I had already turned around to leave, but was forced to stop when I heard his voice.
"Yeah? do you need anything?"
"Come closer please"
