AyaThe moment the plane landed on the runway of our prestigious Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport, What I had on my mind was what the weather was like in Abuja, and I got my answer shortly after because As I set my right foot of the very first step of the metal stairs that had been rolled up to the plane door for us to disembark from the plane, I was immediately welcomed by a harsh punch in the face from the overwhelmingly hot and gloomy weather. The hot, bright sun also wasn't left out, it was all in its glory and forced each one of us to shut our eyes so We don't go blind.
A silly thought of how we walked through a tunnel straight to the airport at Cairo airport instead of walking down stairs came to my head and I compared it to that moment, which made me let out a little laugh. Till this very day, Nigeria remains Nigeria, the fool has no intention of changing.
Laughter and cheers of joy filled the air as we walked in. Families and friends got together again after all, so it was bound to happen. I should've been excited too, but to be honest, I was not. Even though I terribly missed gala, my family and this my crazy Agent, susie, I had no interest in coming back to Nigeria for at least another month. I needed to be away so that my mind would clear up, but Mami brought that to an abrupt end, and you can't blame her to be honest because I was the one who took it upon myself to not tell her anything that happened in the past few weeks and I forbid Hamma from doing the same because I didn't want her to get worried, so of course she was bound to lose her mind at me being away from my matrimonial home and out of the country entirely for over 5 weeks.
It wasn't easy to hide such a thing from her, mainly because I wasn't in the right state of mind, I can barely remember what I did and said at that point, I'm not even sure exactly how she allowed me to leave the country, but Hamma is to be thanked for that, only Allah knows what he said to her. However, the spell got broken a few days ago; She demanded that I dropped whatever I was doing and come back immediately without waiting for an explanation, which brings us to this moment;
"Oh my God, is that AY?"
I heard one of the two girls that were passing by say as they stopped, probably to look at me very well, but I pretended to not hear them and continued reading what I would call my new favorite book, How to Be a Woman by Caitlin Moran, as I was seated on one of the benches scattered inside the airport, waiting for Hamma to be done so we could finally go home.
I was not in the mood to socialize in any way at that moment so I hoped and prayed that they would eventually just leave, but of course, I didn't have my way, because seconds later, I saw them standing right in front of me with smiles on their faces.
"I told you Nana, Ita ce!"
"Wallahi kuwa!"
That made me laugh. I don't know if they thought I couldn't hear them or if they just chose to ignore that I was right in front of them, but I found their reactions funny.
"Sannun ku" I greeted them with a small smile, and before I knew it, one of them bent down to my height and pulled me into a warm hug, and despite the fact that it happened out of the blue, it reminded me of how much I was in need of a hug.
"It's so nice to finally meet you, you're so beautiful wallahi, MashaAllah!" She said, smiling at me as she pulled away, which I returned.
"Thank you"
"Can we take pictures please?"
"Sure"
