Pain
The only thing that was going through Kaitlyn's head was the fact that she was in pain.
She guessed she should have seen it coming after last night. She really overdid it at the mall with her friends. Why couldn't they understand that she couldn't do as much as they could?
Why can't they understand that she moves slower than theirs and that trying to keep up takes a toll on her body?
Why can't they understand that she sometimes needs to just take a break and rest?
Why do they insist that everything has to be done their way?
Today Kaitlyn was really paying for overdoing it last night.
Imagine if you break an arm.
Now imagine if someone set your broken arm on fire.
That's how Kaitlyn's legs were feeling today. Every micromovement of the blanket felt like hot needles being dragged across her skin.
This was not how she anticipated this day going. Everything began going downhill as soon as Lacey picked her up to go to the mall after school.
BEEP BEEP BEEP blared the horn of Lacey's car
This was Kaitlyn's cue to leave as she didn't wanna keep her friends waiting. As soon as she got into the car the noise level of the radio became almost unbearable.
"Can we turn down the volume? It is extremely loud," Kailyn practically begged. Sadly she knew what the answer would be, as this happened every time Lacey drives anywhere.
"OMG NO THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG!" Lacey shouted over the music before scream singing the lyrics.
The funny thing is, every song is Lacey's favorite song. That means the music is always playing at the top volume.
Luckily the drive to the mall was quick and Kaitlyn was able to get some peace and quiet. Well that was until Lacey grabbed her by the arm and took off running to the dress store while talking a mile a minute about what type of dress she wanted to get.
It was such a relief to see Blaire and Ellie standing outside of the boutique, as Lacey could now talk all things dresses and homecoming with other people who were actually invited.
"LACEY, KAITLYN!" Both Blaire and Ellie squealed excitedly.
Immediately they rushed into the store and started looking at dresses. While Kaitlyn was happy to be with her friends, she also had conflicting feelings. It sucked being the only one in the friend group to not have a date.
If nobody had a date and they could all go to the dance together, but no. Kaitlyn was the odd one out. Nobody wanted to ask the girl who constantly missed school and who was always in pain.
Unbeknownst to Kaitlyn, Lacey was the reason for her not having a date, it had nothing to do with her health issues.
Lacey spread the rumor that Kaitlyn would be unable to go to the dance as it would be 'too hard on her health,' and so there is no point in asking her anyways.
A new voice pulled Kaitlyn out of her increasingly self deprecating thoughts.
"Hi my name is Crystal! Is there anything I can help you find today?" Said a pretty girl with purple hair and striking blue eyes.
"No thanks," responded Kaitlyn
"My friends are picking out their dresses for homecoming and I don't have a date, and therefore don't need a dress."
"There is nothing wrong with trying on dresses for fun, and I thought I saw one in the back that would be perfect on you." Crystal responded with a kind smile.
