Kaitlyn wondered if it would be worth it to pretend that she is sick and miss school today, but her conscience would not let her do it.

'I have sadly missed enough school, and I am undoubtedly going to miss more this year, so I have to go,' Kaitlyn eventually decided and grudgingly flopped out of bed.

Kaitlyn quickly got ready for school and tried to mentally prepare for what was bound to come.

She hoped she was a good enough actor to not make Lacey and Blaire know how upset she was with them. 'Years of masking pain may finally come in handy if I am able to successfully pull this off,' Kaitlyn thought to herself disparagingly.

As Kaitlyn was seated in the passenger seat, her mom thought that she almost looked like a soldier preparing for battle. She was correct in a sense, but not in the way she meant her thought.

As the car pulled up to the school, Kaitlyn's grip on her backpack tightened to the point that her fingers turned white. Her mom started to get increasingly worried and decided to ask what was wrong.

"I am just super nervous because we get the grades of our history test back. I really hope I did good and made Dr. Kopper proud of me," Kaitlyn lied to her mom. The lie just made her feel even worse, but she relaxed her grip on the backpack as her mom didn't question her any further.

She refused to let her mom know what was really going on, as she did not want to make her mom worry about her even more than she already does.

Kaitlyn almost forgot how to breathe when her mom finally stopped for her to get out of the car. 'Remember, I have to act like nothing's wrong,' she thought to herself as she opened the door. She remembered to thank her mom and tell her that she loves her before she walked to her possible doom.

She saw her friends standing right inside of the front doors like always. Kaitlyn took a couple of deep breaths and walked towards her friends. She had to remind herself again that she had no other friends, and being with them is better than being alone.

"Hi guys," Kaitlyn said as she walked up to her friends.

"Finally decided to stop ignoring us, have you?" Lacey immediately shot back.

"Have you come to the light that we are so much better than those silly people in the 'support group," Baire added

Ellie just stood off to the side and seemingly held her breath.

Kaitlyn had prepared herself for her response. She hated lying on principle, but this was a lie by omission but mixed with the truth which made it somewhat more bearable.

"I had an extremely bad migraine this weekend. You know how I get when my head gets bad and that I can't be on any small electronics like my phone without it getting worse. I wasn't even going to come today, but I have already missed enough school."

What Kaitlyn said was completely true. She did have a bad migraine this past weekend. The fact that it was only on Saturday, and not the entire weekend like she led her friends to believe, made her feel a bit guilty until she remembered why she was lying to her friends in the first place.

Ellie just let out a sigh of relief and mouthed 'thank you' to Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn saw what she said but ignored her.

Lacey seemed to believe what Kaitlyn had said, as they had been with her when migraines struck and had seen it last into the next day.

Yes Lacey knew that Kaitlyn was really in pain, and that her issues were all true, but she still spread those rumors.

"Aw that sucks to be you," Lacey said sympathetically.
