Kaitlyn was surprised to see a notification in the middle of her last period from her mom. Typically, her mom never contacted her during school hours unless it was an emergency. She quickly checked the message and let out a sigh of relief.

"Hey Kaitlyn, sorry for texting you during school. I just wanted to let you know that I just got to urgent care as your brother might have broken his wrist. They said that the wait is over an hour before we can even see the doctor, and the doctor will most likely order x-rays which will take even longer. I will try to make it in time to pick you up, but I suggest that you try to find a ride home because it is very busy here. Keep in touch, and let me know what you decide to do."

Kaitlyn was relieved when she read the text as it was not a horrible emergency like she feared. She felt bad for her brother, as that meant that he would most likely not be able to play in his basketball game this weekend.

The meaning of her mom's text finally started to sink in.

She had to find her own way home.

Lacey and Blaire were mad at her, but she had no other option.

'I guess I have to suck it up and ask Lacey for a ride, otherwise I will be stuck here for who knows how long. What if I am here so long, Crystal has to pick me up here and I can't get ready for tonight.' Kaitlyn bemoaned in her mind.

She was not looking forward to the end of the school day.

Wow

'That must be a first,' Kaitlyn realized.

It was like the day was conspiring against her, as it seemed like not at all passed until the bell signaling the end of the day rang. That bell caused Kaitlyn's anxiety to skyrocket.

She knew what she had to do, but she was absolutely dreading it. She had no time to dwell on it, as she knew Lacey hated being at school and leaves as soon as she can.

Kaitlyn rushed through the halls hoping to catch Lacey before she left. Her luck held out and she was able to catch up with Lacey and Blaire in the parking lot.

"Hey guys, I am so sorry for upsetting you guys at lunch. Well, my mom is taking Grayson to get x-rays of his wrist and she is unable to pick me up. Are you able to give me a ride home? I will even give you gas money?" Kaitlyn said desperately.

Lacey and Blaire looked at each other and laughed.

"Why would Lacey want to do any sort of favor for a betrayer? What you did at lunch was completely unforgivable," Blaire said when she calmed down.

Lacey then piped in that "I only drive my friends places, and your actions at lunch showed that you are obviously not our friend."

Kaitlyn was stunned, and Lacey and Blaire left her standing alone in the middle of the parking lot. She finally moved when a car blared their horn, bringing her back to reality.

That was when the tears started to flow for the second time that day, and Kaitlyn ran and ran with the tears clouding her vision.

She had no idea where her legs were taking her, but she just wanted to be alone. She finally found a tree behind the school that was out of view. She collapsed by the tree and started sobbing.

Yes she had emotionally distanced herself from Lacey and Blaire, but this hurt. They had been friends for years. Considering leaving your friends was one thing, but getting into a fight that ended the friendship was completely different. This hurt so much more than when she found out that they lied and went to the Taylor Swift concert without her.

All of the good memories that they shared played through Kaitlyn's head making this hurt that much more. What happened to the Lacey she knew? The sweet and kind girl who always puts everyone else first? Everything changed when she got injured. She became distant and became a lot closer to Blaire.
