Daylight managed to sneak it's way through a tiny gap in the curtains, brushing its warm gaze across my face as my eyes peel open. God I had a headache. I rolled onto my back and sat up slowly, my hands sliding across my chest and stomach to feel the tears in my jumper from where the beast hit me. I have to say, one thing I'm glad to have is the enhanced ability to heal. The possible internal bleeding, broken ribs and concussion is now some bruising and a headache. Nothing some paracetamol and ibuprofen won't fix.
"You're awake."
An unfamiliar voice focused my attention and I moved to the edge of the bed, stopping to observe the ring of thick sand surrounding it. A question I'll be asking later.
"Yeah... who are you exactly?" I stepped over the sand, my body aching as I moved to release the muscles. All I saw was the back of a man's head and as I got closer, the more I'm discovering that it's Steven.
"Steven...?"
He shook his head, standing and turning to face me. "My name is Marc."
I blinked at him slowly, my hands rubbing my eyes as I struggled to understand what I was seeing.
"But you look exactly like Steven? Are you his twin..." I kept my eyes on him as he moved closer to me, I sensed Stevens energy within him but Marc, the person I was talking to right now held himself differently. He was more confident and uh, well American.
"It's complicated." He muttered
"I'm starting to see that..." I sat down on the edge of the couch, my eyes taking in the cluttered surroundings. "Where am I exactly?"
"My apartment. You told me not to take you to the hospital." He started to do something before all of a sudden he stopped, I could see his energy starting to change and I couldn't help but observe, whatever business he has gotten himself into, I don't think it's good.
"What's going on?"
I raised an eyebrow, the man now speaking once again with a British accent. I stood up slowly, moving to stand beside him before he screamed.
"Oh my god, you scared me!" He looked at me and I raised my hands.
"Sorry! Sorry I didn't mean to... Steven?"
"Well yeah, who else is it gonna be."
I tilted my head, biting down on my lip as I took in what was happening. Was he aware of anything that just happened? That there's a completely different person within his mind?
"Yeah... Course. Steven who were you talking to in the bathroom last night? I could hear you outside the door..."
He looked at me, running his fingers through his dark curls and I could see the struggle he was having. "You'll think I'm crazy..."
I was going to laugh but he really looked like he was hurting, like he was fighting with himself about what was real and what wasn't.
"I have seen crazy before Steven, trust me... you aren't it." I took his hand, giving his fingers a squeeze as he just gazed at the unexpected human contact.
"I've been experiencing some blackouts..." he started to talk and I lead him over to the chairs at the table, sitting him down. "I would wake up somewhere and I'd have no idea how I got there..."
"Interesting... I can see how that would frustrate a person." I paused, looking at a mirror and seeing a reflection watching me rather than it mirroring Steven. My abilities allow me to have a wider mind, I see things others can't, everyone and everything has their own energy – just like how I can differentiate between Steven energy and uh, what was his name again? Mike? No... Marc. So it makes sense that if he has more than one persona in his mind, more than one being then that's why I can see and sense it.
